Bjarne Freehand

Here's the link again, while it's up

http://www.smokingpipes.com//pipes/new/bjarne/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=21875

Well, I have smoked that big sitter quite a few times now, and I couldn't be more pleased. If other Bjarne pipes are as good, then they are a fabulous value.

Drilling etc is really good, and a couple of little fills are the only complaint I could possibly register. For 85 bucks, though, I don't really think it's fair to expect a Dunhill.

I've never had one of these big Danish style 1970s throwback freehands, but I've got to say that in terms of smoking quality, it could not get better. Burns cool with no effort, right to the bottom. 1 pipe cleaner per smoke and very little moisture collected.

Anyone who hasn't tried a big pipe with thick walls and a bottomless chamber should really make an effort to try one of these things, be it a Bjarne or whatever.

I have always liked the big freehands. They are not an every day, walk around, clench in your teeth pipe...not by a long shot. But if you're looking for a grand sit-down-and-relax pipe, these babys hold a large charge of baccy and smoke cool and dry, right to the bottom. I highly recommend them.

I can't express what a great pipe this is, particularly for the money. Loosely packed, a guy gets 40 minutes out of it. Packed for keeps, I don't know... probably double that. This is a really dry smoker, akin to Stanwell in its manners. Barely need a pipe cleaner after a smoke, and I can't figure out why my Petersons collect so much water when this thing doesn't.

Anyone considering a freehand, like a Nording or whatever, should not overlook Bjarne. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. This is not the classiest pipe in the world maybe, and I think design-wise, Bjarne got off the boat in about 1971. Good for them.

Glad to hear that it's a good smoking pipe, although I didn't doubt it for a minute. Both of my freehands (Ben Wade Golden Walnut and a sweet Harcourt) are fabulous smokers. An hour-hour & a half smoke is the norm with these....cool and dry, right to the heel.
Congrats on your new friend.....enjoy!
