I prefer straight up Folgers...hot black and strong emoticon emoticon emoticon

I don't know how many of you folks heard about that letter that was supposedly from a US Serviceman (I think a Marine) to Starbucks. The whole thing was a farce but it stated basically that Starbucks didn't support the effort in the Gulf and that everyone should boycott the company... to make a long story short, all we get on the ship is Starbucks, so that's what I drink every time I head out on the floating hunk of steel.

Well, it's about 0145 EST, and I just made another pot to slide me into Friday. There's only work from home on Friday, but the deadline for most of it is Monday at 0800, so there is some flexibility in addressing the writing. I use a generic coffee maker most times. SheWhoSpeaksLoudly prefers her brewing w/ less intensity than I do, and she does like the CFoN; a little compromise goes a long way to domestic tranquillity. But, for me, the old percolator on the stove gives a heartier cup of coffee, and you can always chew on the grinds. My real love is 'hobo' coffee, about a tablespoon of coffee for each cup of water in an old enamel sauce pan, allowed to steep and boil to tar like consistency. Growing up in an immigrant family in Phila, it was their choice, using a tea strainer to catch most of the grinds. My grandfather would add a shot of whiskey too, which I suppose explained his affection for his coffee each day.

I happy that there are others who appreciate the genius of Christopher Morley, a fine writer and ractoneur, but a noted pipesmoker who wrote very affectionately about his own choices of pipe smoking.

Bob, I truly enjoy his writing as well. Mainly Parnasus on Wheels. Pipefuls and Haunted Bookshop.

Well I was at the grocery store last night to get more tea for work, and saw Constant Comment Ted is always drinking, so I got some. Tried a cup last night and this is some mighty good tea. Thanks for the heads up Bear. emoticon

I also looked through the coffee section, and saw they sell Dunkin Donuts, 8 o'clock, and Chock Full O' Nuts. They only had the regular CFO'N, so I picked up a 13 oz can of that. In fact, it was the same price as the 12 oz can of Folgers/Yuban/etc, so I'm happy about that. I will try a cup this weekend and report. Many thanks for all the suggestions.

Yes, I think it is obvious in reading Morley's work that he truly did love smoking his pipe. I especially like the part, somewhere in The Haunted Bookshop, where he talks about that first pipe of the day being very special to pipesmokers. He is right about that.
