Brandy ??
At this point I've tried Napolean,Christian Brothers,and E&J.
What are some others I should try?
How about cognac,armanac,and calvados?
Thanks.

Re: Brandy ??
Hi Rob,
I would give a vote for Armagnac, often thought of as a poor relation to Brandy and Cognac but has a wonderful taste and a longer history than both.
Worth trying.

Re: Brandy ??
Hey Rob. For Brandy I would go for Paul Masson (sp?). I can get it at Bevmo for something like $9 a bottle, and it's pretty good. I'm a port fan myself, though.

You sparked my interest in Port.
What should I look for?

Re: Brandy ??
Cognac is rated a the best brandy and is graded ***, VS, VSOP, XO, XS and upwards.
For me, Armagnac is better value brandy and a good Armagnac beats an inferior Cognac.
Calvados s not brandy but distilled cider (UK)or up-market applejack(US) - it's good though.
Very cheap brandy makes a good pipe cleaner
- there ain't no such animal as good cheap brandy!

Re: Brandy ??
Rob my favorite is Whiskers Blake Tawny Port. Graham's port is also good.

The grades are Ruby (+ some makers better rubies called Founders' Reserve or the like), Vintage Character (Rubies fashioned to taste like Vintage ), Late Bottled Vintage (from a single year but matured in barrels - where it ages quicker - before bottling), Vintage (from a single year but bottled young and left to mature in bottle - this takes years and a mature one needs a mortgage - $65 up, but tastes very full and sweet) and Tawny - to me the nicest of all and best value, matured in bottle and less heavy but with a nutty taste - 10 year old is good, 20 year old is great).

Re: Brandy ??
Bringing this topic back up.
What is the proper way to drink Port?
Temperature? Glass?
Thanks from the hick in the sticks.

Re: Brandy ??
Room temperature -UK castle (58F) not the present temperature in your US heat - is recommended but I also like it slightly chilled, especially tawny.
There are silly little port glasses around but I like a sherry copita - stemmed, curved in top, about 3" high bowl, 4-5" o/a, often called a tasting glass. Having said that, a tumbler is better than no port!
