Black and Tan?

I enjoy a dark beer from time to time and have heard of mixing a Guinness with another lighter beer for a different flavor.
My question is when making a Black and Tan is it Bass Ale or Harp Lager that you mix with the Guinness?

Thanks for the help!

To be honest, I don't know. emoticon Back in my heavy drinking days I drank a lot so couldn't afford to drink anything but Bud in the bar bottle. Hell, I couldn't afford that either but didn't let that stand in the way. emoticon I would vary with a Michelob Dark or other brand every once in a while but 99% was the Bud. I had a drinking buddy that drank a lot of varities but the cost was quite a bit more than Bud so I stuck with the Bud.

After reading about some of the stouts, ales, etc., I've considered buying some to try. What would be a good one or ones to start with?

I like NewCastle Brown Ale and I also like Guinness. I will warn you,Guinness is an aquired taste. I'm mostly a Miller drinker, but everyonce in a while I like something different.

I've read about I think they are called oatmeal stouts or something like that. Is that a particular brand or does different companies make that type? Have you drank any of that and if so what's your opinion.

I've had Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout.
It is a very dark and heavy beer, but it is sweeter than Guinness.

I was somewhere and saw a double chocolate stout. I like chocolate and I like beer, but a chocolate flavored beer,I don't think so.

Yep, the Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout is the one I've read about. Think I may try a bottle one day before too long. Chocolate Stout? Nope, not me either!! emoticon I hardly ever eat anything chocolate and even the Bob's Chocolate Flake wasn't one of the best baccys I've tried either. emoticon Each time I've tried to order the S/G Chocolate Flake the etailers have been out but maybe I'll try it soon to see if it's any better than the Bob's Flake.
