Dear Paul Jahshan:
Very good idea to set up one day in the year to commemorate pipesmokers brother/sisterhood.
In Catalunya, Spain, every December 8, in a town called "Arenys de Mar", the "Day of the Smoking Virgin" is celebrated.
On that day, children are taught to make cane pipes and they are allowed to smoke aromatic herbs instead of tobacco of course.
Therefore, our proposal for the "International Pipe-Raising Day" would be December 8.

About December 8: it's not "really" a pipe day, but more of a religious event; the "day of the smoking Virgin" must be related to a religious commemoration, rather than being an "official" day for pipesmokers all around the world.
Personally, I prefer to keep religious days as "religious" and propose another day purely for pipesmokers as pipesmokers.
Another point would be to accommodate pipesmokers in the world who are either not Christians or secular/agnostics/atheists and who may find it uncomfortable to associate the pipesmoking day with a religious event (with all due respect to all, of whatever inclination they may be).
But that's only my modest opinion.
Please let us know yours!

Welcome Fares! Glad to have you here at GPSF. Yes, I think it's about time for a "Pipe Smokers Day". Hopefuly we can be the begining of such a day, a day to join together in celibration of our hobby. Who knows....from small beginings can come great times.

I gotta say this is the best Idea I've heard in years, maybe the best ever!!!!    I must say that The day and the time of year are not nearly as important as the spirit of Brother/Sisterhood. I'm definitely for it whenever it may be .

OK....looks like this is growing. Some of you are members at SF....some at Greyfox. Here is a link to a thread that Paul started in SF. Take a look. There are some great ideas floating around, and I for one, would love to see this take off. The thing to do is to chime in, talk to friends, let your local club and/or B&M know about "our" day. This is a good way to show the rest of the world that pipe smokers are people too....and we love our hobby!

I haven't read the suggestions on the other forums, but I like the priniciple. In addition to determining a specific day, I'd like to suggest a specific time be determined as well - e.g., 1200 GMT. I think folks raising/smoking their pipes in celebration at the same time on the same day would add to the impact. One man's opinion.
