Northern California Pipe and Cigar Show
Almost from the day following the conclusion of our 2007 show in Merced, we have been working to find a venue for a 2008 show. To this point, the site for our previous two shows is not available to us. The biggest problem, as you might imagine, is the difficulty in finding a site that will allow smoking. So far we have been unsuccessful.
It is now May and with no prospects in sight, we are forced to conclude that the possibility for a 2008 show is bleak. So we will take the opportunity to reassess our overall goals and focus on working toward a 2009 show. Some of the questions we will have to answer:
1. Will any location we find be readily accessible to vendors and show attendees, i.e., will it be convenient for motorists as well as air travelers?
2. Will the expense of a site that meets our needs necessitate the raising of vendor fees and possibly call for an admission fee for attendees?
3. Will it be possible to have a show that allows smoking in California or will we have to follow the example of other shows across the country and move to a non-smoking event?
We (the organizers and show volunteers) are not able to answer these questions at this stage. Our plan at this point is to regroup and decide what our future prospects will allow. We would be interested in feedback from any and all interested parties and suggestions of how best to proceed in the future. The ultimate aim is to have a Northern California event again that will be enjoyable and meet the needs of all participants, both vendors and attendees.
So tell us what you think.
Regards,
Jim McClanahan
