Possible Box Pass!
Well everyone, I'm thinking about starting a Box Pass on this forum. I have many less expensive pipes (but fine smoking pipes) that I would put in it, some tobacco to sample maybe a cigar or two and a few accessories to start it with. If anyone would be interested in this let me know. I'd like to have about 10 or so people sign up on the list to do this. I've never actually done one of these before but they appear like they could be lots of fun. Answer this post or PM me if you would be interested in this.

Re: Possible Box Pass!
Steve...Maybe you could explain what a box pass is and how it would work...I have an idea, but it may not be accurate - that's been known to happen from time to time; just ask me wife & kids.

Re: Possible Box Pass!
Scott good idea. I'm posting the rules of a box pass that I'm involved in that is going around right now. This will kind of give you an idea of how one works. I've made a few changes to the rules to fit this group.
PLEASE read and understand the following parameters BEFORE signing up for this box pass. I’m sure there are some folks who have never been in a box pass before, so if those of you who are old hands at this would please just bear with me, I’ll clearly outline the “rules” of this pass. If you have any questions or want some kind of clarification, please email me at
steveg@srsta.com
--This pass will be limited to 15 participants or the cutoff time of Sunday March 12, 2006 at 6:00 p.m., whichever comes first, first come first served! This means the Box will leave me March 13, 2006. If 15 folks sign up before then I may start it out sooner. There will be no exceptions made to the deadline or the limit. If you do not understand the concept behind a box pass, please e-mail me for an explanation “BEFORE” signing up for this pass. Sign up requirements are at the end of this post.
--This pass is open to USA Residents ONLY! We have many brethren across the borders that we’d love to have participate in this pass, but issues with Customs makes this impractical, at best. Our apologies to those Brethren of the Briar (or Meerschaum) outside the USA.
--Each participant can keep the Box till the following Monday before shipping it out to the next person on the list. This means if you get the Box on a Wednesday you can keep the Box till the next Monday (yes, that is 4 days), if you want to ship it sooner you can. Hopefully this will give you longer to sample the goodies. Feel free to sample from the open tins and from the bulk tobaccos (but, please be sure to reseal the baggies that contain them once you are done…thanks!). All that is asked in exchange for this is that you leave something in the box for others to sample. If you would like to take a couple of bowls full of the bulk to sample at a later time please feel free to do so. While this is fun, please remember that your fellow Brethren further down the list from you are anxiously awaiting the box’s arrival. Uncalled for delays spoil the fun! If an unforseen emergency comes up that you cannot get the box out on the Monday please let me know so other arrangements or adjustments can be made. Everyone realizes that things do happen.
--When shipping the box to the next participant the use of Priority Mail service with Delivery Confirmation is required. Shipping via UPS is also acceptable.
--If the box is beginning to show some wear and tear(or getting too small), please replace it with a new box. "It can make it one more time" thinking can result in items being lost due to the box failing while in the shipping company’s hands.
--Puts and Takes should be of like kind of items in the box. If you take a sealed tin, replace it with a sealed tin. If you take a partial tin, replace it with a partial tin. The only caveat is that sealed tins can be used to replace any tobacco in the box. Partial tins in this box will be individually placed in Ziploc bags, so please be courteous and place your partial tins going into the box in Ziplocs as well (this is to insure that they do not dry out).
For you pipe smokers that are also cigar smokers, If you happen to have a favorite cigar that you’d like others to give a try put a sample in the box, and if you’re the one taking one of the cigar samples that might possibly be put in, please try to replace with another. (This is just thrown in as an added part of the box pass)
Bulk tobaccos in the Box are for sampling only. If you have a favorite bulk you would like to share with the Folks following you feel free to add it to the goodies. Just be sure to Ziploc the tobacco and make sure it has a readable label. If you would like to take a couple of bowls full of the bulk to sample at a later time please feel free to do so.
--Tobacco used for Puts into the box should be of good quality and should be blends that you would like others to try. This is not a disposal service, it is an opportunity to sample and trade for some tobaccos you may not have had the chance to smoke and to give your fellow Brethren of the Briar (or Meerschaum) a chance to try some tobaccos they may not have tried before.
--Please, no glass containers. One word—breakage! Enough said!
--Puts and Takes should be notated on the list enclosed in the box. Additionally, all puts and takes should be posted to the Global forum. Remember: That’s part of the fun of participating in a box pass is watching the thing play out on the board!
--There may be a few pipes in the box. If you take a pipe try to replace it with one of like value and if you just want to, you can add one if you have an extra. Hopefully this will give Folks new to pipe smoking a chance to increase or change their pipe rotation.
--Also feel free to type up and add to the box any tips or tricks you might have that involve pipe smoking, such as a favorite way to pack your pipe, keep it clean and smoking excellent, or just any information that you think would help others that you’d like to pass on.
”SIGN UP PROCEDURE”
This is easy. Send an email to steveg@srsta.com with the following information (in the following order, please):
--Global handle (if you have more than one, please include the one you use most often)
--Name
--Address
--email address
--Phone number (only to be used as a last resort for contact and will not be included in box list)
I will send you a confirming email letting you know that you are in the pass. If there are more than 15 people who sign up, I will use the time stamp on the emails I receive to determine the cut-off point.
I'll be posting a list of the goodies that will be in the Box and there will also be a list in the box of what it contained when it left my hands. Please update this list as it leaves yours, notating what you took and what you added. This should also be posted in the group message posts so that everyone can watch the progress of the Box pass.
I want to make this something fun as well as a tool and I think that this will be great.

Box Pass Trial!
Well everyone. I haven't heard any feedback on the possibility of a Box Pass other than from Scott wanting to know how one worked. (I posted a rule list) and a post by Ted saying to count him in. Is there anyone else that would be interested in this If I started it? I would be starting it out with a few tins and a few pipes, as well as a few accessories too. I'm checking to see if there is enough interest. It may be the wrong time of year with all the spring and summer things going on in everyones lives at this time of year and that is why I'm posting the question......... Who would be interested in getting in on this if I make it a reality? Speak up and let me know as I think it would be fun, as well as give forum members a chance to try some new tobaccos they haven't tried and also a chance to do a bit of rotation on pipes by trading out some they have for some I will have in the box.
Just let me know if you'd be interested and if there is enough interest, I'll get started on it. I'd like to have at least 10 people sign up. But could go with a bit smaller sign up if need be.

Re: Possible Box Pass!
I'd still be interested, but hey, we would have to have just about every regular sign up. LOL
I'd still be interested in starting one if enough interest is shown.
