1792 Flake by Samuel Gawith
I just smoked a bowl of 1792 Flake! Next time I try that I'll be sure to fasten the seat belt on my chair! I bought this tin a few weeks ago on one of my all too frequent trips to Uhle's! I just opened it now. Upon opening the tin the baccy smelled almost sweet, like some kind of syrup or sugar. The flakes are a deep rich brown, almost black. The smoke is very full flavored, different from anything else I've ever tried before. I'm not sure I like it yet or not, I'll finish the tin over time and decide if I want to keep this one on hand or not.
I do 95% of my pipe smoking in an office area of my basement. The area serves a few purposes, it's an office for my business, a place to play on the 'puter, read a book, tie flies for fishing, etc.! Anyway, after lighting a bowl of this my wife came over and said, "Oh my God, what is that you are smoking over there!" Bottom line here is you might want to try this one outside!
--- I regret that I have but one life to go fishing. Jon

Re: 1792 Flake by Samuel Gawith
You have found another good one for sure. Most folks either love or hate it with nothing in between. I smoke 3-4 bowls per week and usually in the morning either before or after my DGT'd blend from the night before. It is excellent with a cup of hit back coffee. It has a very distinctive flavor and nothing else quite compares with it. While I've never been told anything about the aroma, I imagine it may not be very pleasing to those around it. Have you tried a smoker's candle or even a regular one to help with the snoke/aroma? That may help a little anyway. That may be a good blend for the meer or clay so you can't get the full taste. Are you going to fill your new Sav with it for breakfast in the morning?

My wife actually likes the smell; "why don't you smoke that great smelling one?"
I can't do it a lot and it must be dried for me but it surely has a "the only one taste"; a bit like Condor - if you get the urge, nothing else will do!
On balance, I prefer Condor but usually half and half with St. Bruno.

One of my regulars, I tend to smoke it in a group three bowl pipe.
I agree it is not the most suitable for the first smoke of the day. I do mix it ith Uni or Erinmore flake.
A very good traditional tobacco.
I find some of the Cut Plugs and Dark Birds Eye stronger than 1792.
