C&D Pirate Kake

C&D describes this blend as having a LOT (emphasis theirs) of exceptional Latakia, along with a little Turkish and Cavendish burley. I've heard the Latakia content is 70%. That's a LOT!

As its' name implies, PK comes in a crumble cake that breaks up with medium effort. It's nearly pitch black and gums up your fingers when you handle it. It packs, lights, and burns fairly well and is a very slow burning tobacco. A large bowl can last me nearly two hours.

As one might imagine, the smoky Latakia flavor is dominant with a little help from the Turkish. I cannot detect the burley in this blend while smoking. The room note is definitely not wife friendly.

Overall I give Pirate Kake a emoticon but would emphasize that it should only be tried by smokers who appreciate a lot of Latakia.

Jim...let us know when you get around to it. I'll be interested in your take on it too.

Ted, I was going to pop this one next but had to change the super secret "master plan". I discovered a tin of Bayou Night that was about to open itself so I popped it instead. I decided a few months ago that with all the jars of bulk tobacco around the place I was going to limit myself to a couple of open tins at a time.

Jim ... I made the same plan some time ago.......just never could follow it! emoticon
Just the other day I found a tin of Balkan Flake in the closet that looked like it "might" be swelling "a little bit". Well, I couldn't let it go bad! emoticon emoticon emoticon I'm happy to say, I've saved it from ruin...turning it instead into ash.

Smokey, I think that Pirate Kake is outstanding, but I just can't smoke it every day, and certainly not twice in a row. The latakia is just far too much for every smoke. In fact, I turned to a small bent meer for just Pirate Kake and a similar small Pete for Kajun Kake (perique). They don't leave just ghosts in a pipe, more like a cemetery full. I've never seen any other tobaccos which have the same impact.
