Mushrooms in the rain?

Well, T-Bear tipped me on how good "Shortcut To Mushrooms" was in a diferent post, I have been enjoying it alot this week. The first time I smoked this blend was on my front porch during a rain storm (high humidity) and I got (4) distinct flavors -(1)Clean earthy(2)Creamy(3)Sweet(4)gentle smokey Latakia all of these flavors "play" very nicely togather IMHO. Well it (tobacco) was a bit wet so I dryed some down and smoked again on a bright sunny day (low humidity) and I lost much of the sweet and creamy flavors but gained burning qualitys. I plan to smoke it "full wet" as shipped again tonight in sunny weather but I was thinking about how hunting dogs can scent better in humid conditions and it occured to me that some of our favorite blends may have more taste or flavor in humid weather conditions, anyone else notice a blend that smokes better or differently in humid vs dry weather? emoticon

They don't do dry in Missouri!

UK doesn't vary a lot.

It's not so much the humidity - as I say it doesn't vary that much in UK - but different baccy's come with differing moisture content and also smoke differently moist to dry.
I like Latakia blends fairly dry and, indeed, Alfred Dunhill used to make them fairly dry in the tin; Burleys too, for me need to be on the dry side.
It's Va's where the real differences lie; Greg Pease recommends smoking them out of the tin but some other blends - Full Virginia Flake springs to mind - are so moist in the tin that it'd produce so much hot steam as to really bite unless very well dried out.

You'll have to experiment a bit but, for me, most things are better for being left out to dry for a few hours.

Re: Mushrooms in the rain?

With the humidity here lately, it takes forever to dry some tobaccos...especially flakes. I tend to nuke them for a few seconds. On another note, my pipes are taking a long time drying too. Sometimes they still feel "damp" inside as much as a week later. I've been smoking my meershaums more due to this...they handle the moisture better. But, even they need some drying time after a few bowls. Humidity this year has been higher than normal, and it's effecting my smoking routine.

Side note:
I'm always confused by the difference...and similarity..of the words "affect" and "effect"....here's what I found in a dictionary search...
quote:

Usage note:
Affect1 and effect, each both noun and verb, share the sense of “influence,” and because of their similarity in pronunciation are sometimes confused in writing. As a verb affect1 means “to act on” or “to move” (His words affected the crowd so deeply that many wept); affect2 means “to pretend” or “to assume” (new students affecting a nonchalance they didn't feel). The verb effect means “to bring about, accomplish”: Her administration effected radical changes. The noun effect means “result, consequence”: the serious effects of the oil spill. The noun affect1 pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, is a technical term in psychology and psychiatry. Affect2 is not used as a noun.

I think I got it right in the above usage... emoticon
