Getting To Know Each Other

I thought it would be fun to post a quick bio of each of us. This way I can tell my wife about my "imaginary friends" as she calls them. emoticon

I've been married to my beautiful wife Jodi for a little over four years, and have known her for about a year and a half more than that. I'll be 30 on March 28 of this year, and Jodi just turned 27 last month. We have one daughter, Josephine (Josie) Elise, born Aug 4 '06. She's everything to us. We live in a small house in north Phoenix with our two cats. Both our parents and all siblings live here in town, so we do lots of family stuff. I was a diesel mechanic from the age of 20 until 28, then the company my brother in law works for (owner goes to our church) was looking for another estimator, so now I do estimating for a grading/paving contractor. All on the job training, but it's much nicer working inside an office at a computer than working underneath a tractor. Plus it is nice to work in a small office, only 9 of us and everyone gets along great. Pays a heck of a lot more, too.

I don't have any other real hobbies other than pipes. I used to do a lot of shooting, but now just have a couple 22's I like to take camping. I also have my private pilot's certificate, but haven't been current in a few years. Marriage is expensive, esp. since the wife doesn't work and stays home with our girlie. We both love it that way, though. Definitely a lifestyle change from two full time incomes (Jodi was a 8th grade teacher), but so nice to not mess with daycare and have mommy at home. We also both love to scuba dive, but haven't been diving since pregnancy/baby. Our last nice trip was to Maui, where she has an aunt and uncle that live there so lodging is free. I love diving in California, but Jodi doesn't like the cold water, so I have to go with my pipesmoking buddy Morgan, who has been my best friend for years and got me started in pipes. He was also the best man at our wedding, and the one I made pipe #2 for that I posted in the pipemaking section. It was a college graduation present, as he's off to med school this summer.

So what about you?

Nice idea Brandon....
Ted The Bear.....
I'll be 65 on March 16th. Born & raised in Ohio, moved to Denver CO. at 21 after a stint in the Navy. Met Pat there ...41 years in April.
We have 4 kids, three boys..one girl. I have two girls by a previous mista....marriage. After the kids escaped, we took in two more...boy & girl...raised them through high school. Between the eight, we now have twenty-eight grandkids.
I worked residential construction for years, then at 50, got into computer drafting and design. Been with this company for 9 years.
Pat & I love these Ozarks rivers....fishing and canoeing. We belong to a program called Missouri Stream Teams, do a lot of volunteer environmental stuff on the Jacks Fork river here.
I love hunting and black powder fire-arms. Pat is a quilter and has a lot of fun with that.
As for pipe smoking, I started in high school in hopes of impressing the girls....HAH! Still, I enjoyed it and have been a piper pretty much since. Found this place a year or so back and have been hooked.......talk about broadening ones horizons!
OK, I'm all through...........

Re: Getting To Know Each Other

Apparently March is THE month for this crowd. I will be 55 March 4th. Born and raised in the southern end of Oregon, (Klamath Falls), I worked mostly in saw mills and in the woods. Working on the second Mrs. at present. Got 20 years invested in this one, she is a keeper. We have a hers, mine, and ours thing going as far as kids go. We had six out of eight at home at one time, (only four grand kids at present).

My dad had a pipe stuck in his mug as far back as I can remember, and I suppose I picked it up from him at about 17 years old.

I am currently working for the Oregon Department of Transportation in the engineering arena, having seen the "hand writing on the wall" in wood products a number of years ago.

OK, I'll go...Already 55 Stump. Next b-day is in August. Also married, three years in March, so basically still a newly wed. Camille is a psychotherapist, so I'm very in touch with my feelings. emoticon Between us we have four kids and a grand daughter, who has three sets of grandparents - ah, blended families.

I, too, am in a second career now working as a career consultant, helping folks find their next career or achieve the next level in their current career. This after about 30 years in politics and public policy. emoticon I work in a small office north of Denver and love the work.

Started smoking a pipe in high school, probably for the same reason Ted did, but with less success. Continued smoking all through college and grad school, but gave it up when I got married. Didn't smoke for almost 20 years. Ironicly, started again to deal with the stress of being divorced. Can honestly say I've got the ex to thank for returning me to the pipe. One of the best things she ever did for me. emoticon

Re: Getting To Know Each Other

I'm known as Meer, and prefer not to share my real name on the boards. I am a divorced mother of 4 great children, 3 of whom have special needs. My oldest has a hearing impairment, my middle two have mild to moderate autism. My littlest is cute as a button (IMHO) and a pretty sharp cookie. My love interest is a very humble and caring man who is also my best friend. I just recently bought a house in Port Huron, MI and have a kitten named Scrunchy.

I am an elctronics engineer in the automotive industry and have been in this profession for 12 1/2 years. My focus is on wireless sensors
and transmitters. My proudest acheivement in the professional arena is my US patent which tests wireless alarm systems for use in the
European market.

My pipe journey started 4 1/2 years ago, and I have to admit I smoked only aromatics for the first 6 months. Near the end of that period I found a couple diffent pipe groups on yahoo, that's when my knowledge base started to expand exponentially! Through the kind mentorship of Joe Harb, and many others who answered my endless newbie questions, my passion for the gentle art of pipesmoking grew. I now own a pipesmoker's board on yahoo called Stokers' Haven and co-own a board exclusively for women pipesmokers. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 pipes, and love vintage tobacco. I still like learning more about P&T, and am curently interested in German and North Ameican carvers. I recently started on my cigar journey and find my tastes run toward Maduro and double Maduro's.

Outside of the hobby, I love playing DDR and doing things with my kids, I love music, (listening, singing, and ocassionaly playing my flute.) I read whenever I can, many recent readings are non-fiction that relate to the Bible and faith. I love meeting new people, or meeting members of the boards, that's one of the reasons I love pipe shows.

This is me in a nutshell (yes I'm a pretty big nut). emoticon emoticon

Guess I can join in, though I'm not as impressive as everyone else! emoticon
I'm Brenda, 51 in April. I have one daughter, Larry had one and between the two, ended up with 6 grandkids.I am raising the oldest one now, who is 11. I presently do not work, as for the past 10 or so years, worked with Larry in our Homed Remodeling Business. And I am not a pipe smoker. emoticon I used to smoke one with Larry from time to time, but I think I just stay too busy to get the full enjoyment of a pipe. Love, love, love to smell them though!

Well lets see... I am 30 years old today! I am married to Timbo, he is the best husband and father. Between the two of us we have 5 kids. My in-laws are the best in-laws a girl could ask for. I have lived in many states. My mom passed away April 6th 1999, just a day after I turned 22. I have 1 younger brother. I am close to my father and have a fantastic step mother. We just opened a construction company and so far so good! I love my life, my and kids, and my husband!
