I'm John and I live in Portage Pennsylvania.I am married to a wonderful woman named Cindy. We have four boys, Two of whom still live at home.I'm 44years old and I like reading ,walking and learning more about pipes and tobacco . I started smoking in junior high and quit for a while, then started again a few years back. I guess I've been smoking for about ten or fifteen years all together. I like cobs and low priced briar such as DR. Grabow and medico. guess that's it . emoticon emoticon

John....Thanks for checking in here....good to know a bit more about you. There's nothing wrong with cobs and Dr. G's....some grand smoking pipes! I do however, have a problem with anyone who admits to being from Pennsylvania..... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Just kidding of course....welcome aboard!

Re: Getting To Know Each Other

Well this thread hasn't seen much attention lately, so I guess it's time to give you folks something to read...

My name is Paul. Born and raised smack in the middle of the Cascade and Olympic mountains of Washington. We have an abundance of water here (not including the infamous RAIN) and beautiful views abound. I grew up backpacking the mountains and rugged ocean coastline, hiking and anything outdoors. Sittling by a campfire with good friends and a dutch oven simmering away can't be beat.

I am 35 and married for 10 years. I haven't ever done anything good enough to deserve my beautiful bride, and I know she has never done anything bad enough to deserve me! We have 2 kids (girl: 11 today; boy: 8) that enjoy swimming very much. My daughter plays the violin. We are all fairly active in our church as well. Our faith is very important to us.

As far as work goes, I have been a drafter/designer since High School and am currently managing a drafting department for a local engineering company. I went to college for photography, but have kept that a hobby.

I have just recently gotten into pipes. I quit chewing tobacco years ago and also kicked nasty cigs quite some time ago as well. Pipes give me calm. There are so many aspects to piping, that you just can't get bored with them.

God bless.

Well now, Paul, you're starting to scare me! I'm a design drafter here in south-central Missouri! I got into drafting at the ripe old age of 50 when my old job went "South" to old Mexico....became eligible for job training and took a class in ACAD at the local Vo-Tech. Been here for 11 years and am "lead design drafter" in a 2 seat drafting department. emoticon The youngster across from me will inherit this station when I retire in a year and a half....poor kid! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Curious....what field of engineering are you in? Mechanical and electrical here. We build methane recovery systems for landfills, large scale dairy and hog operations.

I work for a jack-of-all-trades engineering company. We have both a marine (boats) department and a facilities (buildings) department. I personally have experience in architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, marine, etc. We do a fair amount of shoreline work (marinas, piers, docks). It works well and keeps me fairly interested.

A year and half to retirement, eh? Boy, I wish I was that close. But, you gotta pay your dues I guess.

Re: Getting To Know Each Other

well i reckon its my turn. I am on my second and final marriage as well, my wife and I have a total of eight kids between us. I have been a blacksmith for about eight years and a pipe smoker for about two. I still have a lot to learn about both. Its hard to separate the two for me. I love the smell and taste of a good pipe and a coal forge. LIfe truly can't get much better! emoticon
