Re: Broken Pipe
Oh what to say??????
Words escape me, I only know that my/our friend is gone and finally resting his head in peace. I wish that each and every one of you had had the opportunity to meet this southern Gentleman in person.
It seems like only yesterday, that I sat in his shop taking direction on the proper way to care for, refurbish, and finally make a beautiful smoking instrument, from nothing but a block of beat-up wood.
As I sit here now, trying to write this post, I am going through our correspondence from the past month and a half. It is evident in one particular e-mail, in which he made it very clear, his vigor for life. But in the same paragraph, almost joking, he accepts what the future inevitably holds in store.
This is something from one of the letters he wrote to me, it defines in my opinion, his love for this hobby, and the people of this forum. We were talking about his posts and the precise responses in which he always gave when someone had a question.
“So, what I'm saying is I try to understand what's been posted, the context it was posted in and try to respond in the same context. No doubt since many of my posts tends to be long and rambling, mine are probably the ones that are not read closely or even read in totality. Therefore, I try to really put forth an effort that if per chance my posts are read, they can be understood and the meaning fully grasped. Again, I don't intend what I'm saying as a negative towards some that may not read or respond to every post clearly but only saying why I put so much effort into reading them correctly and responding in the same vein.”
Our friend has left this earth, but will forever live in our memories.
God speed my friend, may He keep and hold you, forever in His arms.
Tom

Re: Broken Pipe
Scooder...Thanks for the photo. It's great to see a picture of Brittany, that champion speller; and Larry too of course.
Steve...Thanks for the link to Larry's obit. Good to see your post, and hope all is well.
Tom...Larry DID have a penchant for long posts; but I never found them rambling, and I absorbed every word he had to say. He was a wise man indeed. One of my great regrets will be not having met him in person.

Re: Broken Pipe
Larry did have long posts because he tried to address everyone on the forum. He went out of his way to make us all feel comfortable and at home.
Because he was so relaxed it made me start posting more.
I feel the same as Scott, I wish I could have met him.
