How are you celebrating the inaguration?

I'm stuck here at work...going to listen to live stream broadcast on NPR...radios/TVs not permitted in the office...

What if anything, are you doing today?

Praying would be a good answer (if I believed!).

The world needs something to change in attitudes, tolerances and greed; let's see if this can be it.

I know what you mean Jim...I'm more interested in *AFTER* the ceremonies...when the rubber hits the road.

It seems to me, the whole "Black Messiah" thing has gotten blown completely out of proportion in the media. Unfortunately, they've set Obama up for a fall, intentionally or otherwise. Expectations are that he will come into office, wave a magic wand and all our problems will evaporate. Race problems will disappear, the wars will end and the economy will self-heal over night. It ain't gonna happen.

No matter how good his intentions, no matter how innovative his strategy, it is going to take time...a long time...to get us any where even close to "normal" ... and normal as we've been living it, is gone. In the mean time, Congress and the people are going to be holding the poor guy to a standard that is unattainable. The Republican House and Senate are not going to roll over and give the Democrats a free pass on a lot of this stuff...the old political gridlock will set in once again...it's inevitable. When this happens, it will be the President who will catch the fallout. I really hope he can keep the two parties focused...but I have my doubts. Only time will tell.

The people have been led to believe that everything can be *fixed* in the first year..some even think in months. We haven't even hit bottom yet...maybe not for another year! The recovery process is going to be slow and painful.

We are going to have to change the way we think about credit, spending, the environment and our life-style. I'm not sure we will do that..voluntarily. It's gonna take a crisis to get us off-center, and that crisis hasn't happened...yet.

The next four years will be "interesting", to say the least!

I wish our new President all my best.

I have a load of papers to go through and sort out for the people that control my income etc. Mean time , while I'm doing that I will watch the TV ans sure as you can be I will also be praying for things to work out but it sure looks like a rough road ahead and I hope I can hold out. When the two new meers get here and the tobacco I will sure sit back and enjoy them while I can. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and not all is lost. Tell you more about that in the next few months and I won't need the gov. help in living and for income. We'll see.........

Ted,

totally agree with you, peoples expectations are far too high and they expect a "Quick Fix".

President Obama has told us how bad it is, how hard and long the solutions are, so I can only hope that the people are listening.
I think that if anyone can do what's needed, it's this man. He will be steady at the helm.

I sure hope so!! He is hittting some areas that will directly effect me and if I can get health coverage and a decent place to live. I must admit that am very appehensive(sp) but I do think he will try his best. We have to have faith that he will. Right now there is no other choice. What a solid place in history he will have if he does take care of these problems.

Re: How are you celebrating the inaguration?

Just came on this thread. We watched the ceremonies in an open air cantina in Zihuatenajo where we went for supplies. We were on our way back to the car and heard the commentaries on a TV. We sat down to watch with a number of other American tourists of various ages and, I suspect, political persuasions. It was interesting to observe the pride we all had in witnessing, in a foreign country, the orderly and peaceful transition on power.

I tend to agree with John; we're on the precipice of a new order and we've got the right man to lead us. God bless him; he'll need all the help he can get.
