Was at an estate sale...

near our home...being as it was out-of-doors, I took a couple of Bear's Dens and a selection of tobaccos. Whilst puffing on some Evening Stroll in one of my pipes, a lady walked up to me and complimented me on the *nice smell* of my pipe. Then she asked if she could see the pipe...one of my free-style carvings. I handed the pipe to her and she examined it, then asked me who the carver was. When I explained that I had carved it, she called her husband over to show HIM the pipe! Seems he is an ex-piper who had to give it up due to health problems...NOT smoking related. We chatted for a while, then parted.

All in all, four people at that auction went out of their way to compliment me on the "pleasant aroma" of my pipes and tobacco, and I didn't get one scowl or negative remark! This was one of the best pipe-days I've had in a very long time.

Just wanted you guys to know that there ARE small pockets of civilization left in this PC, nanny-state world of ours.

Nice story, Ted. It's getting harder to find a decent "public" place where a smoker feels comfortable. I mostly smoke at home......or the local Elks club....where smoking is "business as usual". emoticon

Very nice. I always enjoy it when someone remarks positively on the note of my pipe tobacco.

I had a similar experience in an Applebee's the other night.
