Greetings from mid-MO

I'd like to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Ed "Smokey" Strodtman and I live in central MO on a farm about 6 miles SE of the tiny town (population 220) of Gilliam, MO.
My wife and I own some crop land here that we rent out. We are both retired, although we do have a small home based business on the side to bring in a few extra bucks.

Besides pipe smoking, my other interests are motorcycling, bicycling, reading, watching sports on TV, and pets (we have two dogs and one cat). My cycle and bike riding have been severely curtailed by serious back problems in the last few years.

I've been a pipe smoker for 38 years and enjoy participating in these forums and doing tobacco reviews. My tastes are eclectic: my no. 1 type of smokes are burley blends, but I also enjoy English, Balkan, VA, VA/Per, and the occasional aromatic. I'm still learning things about this wonderful hobby and probably will continue to do so until I'm 6X6.

I would welcome any correspondence with other members, I'm a pretty gregarious fellow. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for having me here.

Hello Smokey, good to have you here. You may be relieved to note that I live no where near Missouri. emoticon

Greetings oh Ed! Welcome to GPSF! As Steve said, we're a small but friendly forum. If you're as gregarious as you say, you'll fit right in here! Looks like you are another one of those "burley nuts"....there's a bunch of them here... emoticon emoticon emoticon In your favor is your liking of English, Va's, and Va/Pers....my favorites. Pull up a stump, fill a pipe and jump right in! At 65, I've decided that pipe-smoking is a life-long learning experience.

Your "town" is even smaller than mine....Summersville, MO. is a whopping 550! (we count milk cows.....) emoticon

Tom, I'm riding a 1999 Kawasaki 1500cc Vulcan Drifter (the one that looks like an old Indian Chief). I've ridden Kawasakis for quite a few years now and used to work for a dealer. Thanks for the welcome!

Smokey,

That's a beautiful ride emoticon emoticon If you look in "anything goes" there's a thread for "the retirement trip". The Bear and I will be retiring about the same time and he has to come out to Cali to pick up his bike (2001 Suzuki Intruder LT 1500), so we can make the ride together, hopefully Timbo will be able to make the trip as well... If you're up to it...the more the merrier emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
