Re: Blasphemer! No Pipe Cleaners!!!
Well I *normally* run a cleaner through my pipes when I dump the ash/dottle....that said, there are times when I get in a rush (read "lazy") and let a pipe set without the cleaner treatment. It might be that they don't get smoked back-to-back and can sit 3-4 days before I pick them up again, but I've noticed no difference. I too think it's a number of things....climate, frequency, tobacco, smoking cadence.....lots of variables will effect your pipe's smoking condition.

I couldn't agree more, Jackstraw!
One of the beauties of this hobby is the variety of approaches to almost all aspects of it.

Re: Blasphemer! No Pipe Cleaners!!!
Whiskers here, I'm pretty lazy about pipe cleaners myself, unless it's one of my "Wellington's", the "well" collects moisture, so I use Q-tips to swab the well out during the smoke, and a pipe cleaner now and then down the stem.
My straight pipes on the other hand, I don't even worry about anymore, unless I get the dreaded "gurgle".
LOL!! I don't think my Grandpa did either, that's why when I got his pipes, half of them were plugged up. He was a DR. G. fan, when one plugged up, he would throw it in the box and get a new one.
I'm glad that I could clean them out though, and they are all good smoking pipes now.
