Cowboy, think of this as the pipe forum version of "Cheers" (Where everybody knows your name.)

Yep....I like that....says it all. I haunt SF and Grey Fox, neither of which has the "family" feel this little board has.

I've been asked why we don't show in a Google search and why we don't make a greater effort to expand the user base. For my part, it would mean a lot more problems with spam and trolls. This means I'd have to go to a more robust and secure host. That entails money and time....neither of which are in abundance at my house.

It would also mean a loss of the "down-home feel" of this board. Now if this is what the majority here wants, I'll do it, but it won't be the same.

Have you noticed all the in-fighting on SF lately? Members getting their feelings hurt....pouting and carrying on? I don't want that happening here. I like our little community....we all know each other, respect each other. That's something rare on a public board.....anywhere!

...your thoughts?

Words of wisdom, T-bear. I'm glad we don't show up on google, and that this is a small, family, smokeshop buddies type atmosphere. People on SF are not friends, and that's why they haven't got a lot of respect for each other. I'd gladly have each one of you as guests in my house, and open the baccy cabinet wide. And I think if we always keep in mind the spirit that Larry created this place in, it will always be just like it is, no matter how many members there are. There are two things we have on this board that I have not found on the other boards, and everyone on this board possesses it: a love of pipes and tobacco, AND the value of friends. To me that is what makes this place so great. When my mother was first diagnosed with cancer, and spent lots of time in the hospital, folks on this board went out of their way to check on me and see how things were. That meant so much to me, and as long as this board exists I'll be here.

Sorry that I just kind of threw a bunch of thoughts together how they came out, but I really value what we have here and wanted to say so.

Fellas, (and ladies too, beg pardon), I think things are pretty good right now. Ted, I know what you mean about the fighting and such. I never spent much time at SF, but like a few others here I have put in a good deal of time at GFO. Not a bad place, but not the same as when it started either. I will keep my opinion to myself other than to say some groups have a few to many people who are more interested in being right than just enjoying the pleasures of a good load of tobacco. More power to them I suppose. Myself, I just enjoy a good conversation with folks who just want the same. I like it here.
