posticon Fat Dad

I just wanted to say that I went to Joker's last Friday and Saturday (22nd and 23rd) and the opening band (Fat Dad I'm pretty sure was the name, please correct me if I'm wrong) was wonderful! I was really impressed with them. Especially the keyboarder's voice! It was just gorgeous, like dark velvet! I thought the trumpet player was impressive as well! I'm such a band geek though. I will always have a place in my heart for wood winds and brass!! emoticonAnyway, the point is the jam session was wonderful and much enjoyed!! You guys should do it again!!

Re: Fat Dad

Indeed! Fat Dad is my personal favorite local band. I really love the way they play "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison. Not many people can put the same kind of intensity into their voice that Van Morrison has like Jim (trumpet guy) can. Not to mention that everything they play is pretty much incredible every time I've seen them. We had a blast playing with them, although in many ways I feel as though it should have been us opening for them. Honestly, it was a bit intimidating playing after Fat Dad, for a few of us at least. They're extremely talented musicians that have a wonderful thing going for them. I wish Fat Dad all the success in the world and look forward to doing some more shows with them down the line (a small spring tour perhaps?)

On a related note, Jim McMahon's trumpet will be heard on the studio version of our song "When She's Gone". I'm pretty sure you already knew that though, Ms. Pancreas (btw, is that a 'Fight Club' reference by chance?). Anyway, it sounds even better than I imagined it to sound - can't wait to show it to the world.

Mad props be to Fat Dad!

Nolyn

Re: Fat Dad

Why yes it is a Fight Club reference Mr. Falcon. Very perveptive of you.

I thought i would take this time to tell you some tidbits of Gypsy Foot praise I've wanted to get out there for awhile.

One is that I loved the time you guys covered Rivers of Babylon and all of you lined up at the front of the stage singing.

You probaby already know this one, but the diggery-doo (sp?) has bass!! It's awesome! i can't wait for the album with the better recording! It will bump!!!

I thought that the line in Susie Songbird where it says, "Ocean's calling for the moon's demise," was "Ocean's coming from the holes in my eyes." Silly me. Good thing for me you posted the lyrics!

I really enjoy when you guys play, Amber I think it is, and you all go off stage except for Ira and Roger then you just let them go crazy with a percussion solo! It kicks!

Anyway, I know there's more I wanted to tell you but my brain can't access that information right now! So adieu Mr Falcon, have a wonderful day!!

Thanks you guys for the kind words! Gypsy Foot happens to be my favorite local band; I dig the "jams" and your tunes are fresh and memorable. I can't wait until we can do another show with Gypsy, I hope it is soon.
I think Buckstop would be the perfect venue.

We would love to see you all at the Seas on Thursday - It's kind of a mellow venue but still pretty cool. We are going to have a kick-ass bari-sax player from the cities sit in with us on some stuff... Nolyn and I are trying to put our heads together to book a show together for the weekend of Jan 7th and 8th....Stay tuned....

emoticon We were honored to have Gypsyfoot on stage to open up the first ever Fatdad and Friends. Their show last night was indeed inspiring! You can expect them to be invited for another appearance in the near future....It is exciting to be involved in the Bismarck music scene that is supporting local live original music more and more.... the vision of Fatdad and Friends is to have a place where the musical community can come and share their art. A place where people can come and hear different local musicians on a consistent weekly basis. Thank you to Jokers for hosting! Grab a friend and come on out.....no cover and 2 for 1's.....

Peace, Jim McMahon
