Final Trial
Sixteen years in Hell. What must life be like to a human, who returns to find everything changed? In those sixteen years, the world I knew as home has been destroyed. And all for a failed mission.
Mark, the one Zaphire had some connection to, was captured shortly after we attempted an assault upon the temple. Time was of a concern, for he was beginning to show demonic traits, and so we had little time to do research. After successfully creating my first amulet I emerged from the room I had been doing studies in to find nobody had any plan whatsoever, nor had they done research for the assault. As a matter of a fact, I am uncertain of what they did at all during that time. I therefore attempted some spying on their ziggurat in order to assess the layout of the complex. I was able to draw out a map of the first floor as well as of the outside of the complex. While it was safe to assume they had some sort of wards upon the complex, research at the library had revealed no clues to Mark and so we were left knowing only the surface of the place.
With what little information we had we attempted to visit the temple, except we were immediately assaulted by three devils and a cultist. Sho, overcome by the devil's presence, fled. The cultist fell quickly, but so did Mark. Stewart was the next to fall, pulled under by the snatching devils. I am not certain in all of it when he died for he spent most of the time pinned underneath their deadly spikes. Our cleric, Sezanne, who had spent so long trying to keep the others alive, fell then to the remaining fiends. Realizing too late that we had not the power to take on an entire cult, I ran to find Sho and see if we could rescue them before they were dragged into the ziggurat; but they had disappeared before we returned.
With all those who had asked us to aid except Kaimilar dead, we returned to Kaimilar to speak to him of what had happened. He was unwilling to directly interfere in the cults' business, having found a different path. A reminder- Sho and I also had a separate mission. In my mind, it was time to find our different path just as Kaimilar had; but Sho wished to pursue, so we went to the Lady of Pain to speak to her.
Her speakers did not seem pleased; likely they had sent this group expecting success, but had not considered the prospect of failure against the overwhelming odds. They offered us one additional aid if we wished to continue the task. Three people against a cult did not seem like winning odds to me; and if the individual they wanted to aid was so powerful that they could replace three people and do better then those three I found it likely he or she could take on the mission themselves without our aid.
I declined their offer, and Sho and I did research on our own path; that of locating his lord and escaping the Outer Planes so we could find his lord. During that time, it seems Zaphire succeeded at what he had been trying; regrettable but not our duty any longer. We are mortals, not gods.

Ibugoru cares not about the demons, so no worries, next year is zau free.
Also, while he may be tough, so even if we do horror, I predict (and hope) it will be markless.
I'd also like to point out that the Redmond group has done more in the write up section while there has been no play than the entirety of the 'main' group with their unholy amount of gaming hours.
