Saddest Moment (Spoilers!) There were quite a few sad moments, but which did you think was the best tear jerker?
I think at the end (EP 39) When Esteban's father touched his face, and he felt that warmth about him, it was like he knew, but didn't. And then when he died after, saving the world.
My second would definatly have to be when Zia's father told his story after she was taken away from him. Then the part after when she sat by his gravestone after he had died defending the village of the new sun.
Re: Saddest Moment I admit that the last episode was sad; also from the fact that Esteban sailed, walked and flew miles just to find his parents, only to come within touching distance. Those closing scenes were intimate in a way.
This is one episode that I try avoiding now, I am scared a bit of being desensitized.
As I watched MCoG for the second time in 15 years, the ending was the climax. I hope that you didn't spoil it for those people who haven't seen MCoG yet.
Saddest Moment (Spoilers up the yin-yang!) Sad moments?... well, the last bit does in fact seem to surpass all the others in terms of feelings of loss. No doubt about that... I personally thought the "saddest part" of that scene might have been the bit where the Priest is ready to put the jar in, but suddenly drops it and falls nearly unconscious -- that part was the bit which affected me the most in the scene. Notable runner up is the bit where the High Priest jumps down into the pit, while Esteban looks back in a state of numbness (and presumably hope that it wasn't who he thinks it could have been).
But let me see if I can think of an unusual sad moment.
Well, it's not exactly in the same league, but the whole scene with Gomez and company burning Zia's village and threatening to slowly kill Tao and Esteban (ahhh, children's TV) which lead to the giving up of the ever-important secret to the conquistadors. That had a melancholy tone to it.
When Esteban's father touched his face, and he felt that warmth about him, it was like he knew, but didn't.
That bit always gets me, even without the music it would work.

I watched this a few years ago as an adult after only seeing it through a childs eyes...and oh boy I was in tears! Funnily enough I had a dream about this very scene last night. The image will never leave me.

Me too.
This is a strange one but when the solaris blew up and all that unique technology was lost, that was quite saddening to watch, esp after seeing tao so happy about its discovery. *sigh*
Re: Saddest Moment (Spoilers!) Yes, Tao discovering the Solaris was a happy moment for him, but the moment where he had to destroy it to save his friends must've been a massive wrench to him. I feel sorry for him then.
As for Esteban's father's death, well that goes without saying - it is simply the saddest moment in the whole series.
Re: Saddest Moment (Spoilers!) The death of the High Priest is of course the saddest part of the show, but there's also some very moving moments in the early episodes too - such as the death of Father Rodriguez in the very first ep, and when Esteban is swimming in the sea thinking he will never find Zia... awww
Re: Saddest Moment (Spoilers!) The death of Esteban's father is one of the most saddest and emotional scenes in the series, and along with the death of his surrogate father, Father Rodriguez, the death of Papacamayo is another emotional moment; what makes it more emotional is that Mendoza puts his morals before his greed and starts to show affection for Esteban and the children.
