Yes, you are correct. I asked Howard Rhyspan that same question. He directed the dubbing from French to English, and also helped with the French to English translations, and he said that some words were changed for asthetics, or because they had different meanings.

Kukapetal was also called "Gwenig" in the Japanese version.

Thanks for your answers! Still it sounds strange, that they'd change names like that. That explains the different name of Pichu, I read somewhere some time ago that refered to the parrot as Kokapetl and I thought that it was wrong, but I couldn't remember the right name.

If you want to hear it, go to this site:

http://www.mysteriouscitiesofgold.com/frames.htm

and go to "Sound Archives". There you have sound bites from the series. Most of them in English but some in French and even Japanese.

Man.. That really does not suit his character at all. The English version sounds much better, not just because I can understand it.

Having heard all three Tao voices now, I think the English is still the best, the Japanese has SOME deepness to it, but the French is the worst of them all.

BTW, what's with the freaky music in the Japanese version? Didn't they use any of the Western music?

I will have access to 2 episodes (first and last) from the English, French, German and Japanese versions soon so can put up a few comparisions if anybody would like me to. I suppose it is another bit that would be interesting to try and do on my website. I could just use the version comparision part as I plan on giving a preview of the quality of the audio on each version in anycase.

It seems that Adrian Knight WAS Tao (not Esteban) after all...Anyway,in the English dub, boys did Esteban's and Tao's voice.Plus, we may hear their voices in the new seasons of MCoG !

BTW. you may have seen this already, but , just in case,
here is the

Japanese opening/ theme song

Take care!
