Re: Another Major Inconsistancy
Well, seeing as the boat was splitting apart at the seams, that would have been the way to leave. And, as stated before, most of the people who were escaping the boats barely had anything more than Gaspard. Given his decidedly enormous strength, he could at least have reached those folks (and probably knock one into the drink for his flotsam, too).

Re: Another Major Inconsistancy
Not to try an attempt a relation to PotC,.. but... there be some truth here...
Perhaps Gaspar did the same that Will Turner did when he escaped the Interceptor...
Somehow.. found an opening in the ship & was able to barely swim to safety.. if you call stranded in the middle of rough seas clinging onto a plank of wood safety.

Re: Another Major Inconsistancy
Back to the original question...
Remember, the ship was so rotten, and when the strorm hit it, it's planks broken. Maybe that wasn't the only one hole on the ship, and when the water flooded in so hard, (MAYBE) Gaspard was thrown out of the sinking ship to the sea.
Maybe the people on the lifeboat find him later. They doesn't have a navigator anymore, so they doesn't really knew which way to go, and there was a chance to find Gaspard in the sea.:P
Or maybe that galleon(which attack the Solaris later) picked both him and Gomez up. Remember, we saw some sailors who was on Esperanza, too! (But then...where the hell did Perez disappeared?...)
Anyway, they should be on that lifeboat for a long time: they arrived much later to Pizarro, than Esteban and his friends...
Hmmm? How about it?
