AMSTERDAM 2009 (17/18 OCTOBER)

As many of you know, this seems to have become our Club 'away weekend' target for this year. For the uninitiated, this event consists of a 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon, all on the same weekend.

Malcolm Hutchings and I have been doing a bit of pricing, comparing the cost of going overland (coach plus ferry or tunnel, with Malcolm driving) or by air.

The general concensus appears to be making it a four day trip, from Friday until Tuesday, and that is what Malc and I have based our investigations on.

To give you an idea of the cost, we are talking about roughly £85 for the return flight (Easyjet from Bristol to Schippol) plus accommodation of around £35 each per night for a decent hotel. The hotel prices are based upon two sharing. The cost of doing it by land could bring the price down if we take 30 or more but will obviously involve taking most of the Friday and Tuesday out travelling.

In a nutshell, likely cost is going to be around £450 per couple for a 4 day trip.

Would all interested people please meet in the Coal Orchard after the run on Wednesday 4 March at 8pm. Hopefully we can then guage the level of interest and what personal preferences everybody has.

Mike

El's been doing some work on this one too.

She's come up with a package deal which she'll happily share with anybody interested on Wednesday.

I should have perhaps said in my original post that I would welcome others doing some research into any deals which they can find and share with us all.

Just bring them along on the 4th.

I found a package through Expedia £254 for x4 nights B&B (16-20th). Hotel was called Best Western Blue Square Hotel and was a 3*. It is about 2m from the main center of Amsterdam but I guess that isnt too far. Flight times are leaving Bristol at 10.05am, returning from Amsterdam on the 16.45. Forgotten to bring in the info this morning but have a look on Expedia.Had a good report from ather guests. Again, just an idea.

Have just booked my room at Best Western Blue on Expedia. It appears to have gone through seamlessly except the Best Western Blue entry disappeared for a while after I first logged in. But, I sorted the list of available hotels alphabetically and I was able to find it again.

Not much of a story I know but, maybe this will help others who may encounter a similar problem.

Perhaps other readers have had a similar online booking experience which they'd like to share with the rest of us.....?

Have just checked the Runners World site and looks as though the 10k has been reduced to 5k with all 3 distances taking place on the same day.

So Cheerleader we'll have to decide if it's 5k or another half! hmmmm not sure - it's only 4 weeks after the GNR......
