The quiz night just gone at The Maypole Inn
Hi all,
Forgot to post on here re the Maypole Inn on our last quiz night. I thought it was a very good evening, great turnout and very enjoyable.
I am sure that the Maypole would have really appreciated filling the pub on a Thursday night what with people eating and drinking until closing time.
It seems I thought wrong.
I am not sure if everyone knows but they charged us a rental fee of £25, we expected a £20 charge prior to the evening. This was at cost to the club from the social fund! However after literally filling their till i asked the Bar manager along With organsier Elanor whether they might consider waving the hire fee. My basis for this was not only the massive takings they must have got but it was also our third time at the Maypole and we will no doubt have numerous quiz nights in the future.
I asked in a very polite manner and received an extremely ****y and rude answer. The guy was very abrupt and suggested that if we did't want to pay, take our custom elsewhere. He even had the cheek to suggest that the fee was for electricity and heating hmmmm, a bright and warm evening in May.
I would assume then that had i wanted to dine there that night they would have put me in a room with no lights and chucked me a duffle coat to keep warm!!!!!
I am not taking anything away from the Pub, i have not personally eaten there for years and i am sure it is very nice but the attitude towards our club with very limited funds was very poor and i suggest that we take his advice and find a new venue in the future.
Darren ( RFRC Treasurer ) aka the Wells Catfish - Rich will understand!!

Re: The quiz night just gone at The Maypole Inn
Alternatives
1, The Albemarle Centre as they have a room with a bar which anyone that went to the AGM would know , there would be a charge for the room and the bar but i would rather our money went to a charitable organisation rather than that c-h-e-e-k-y pub manager, plus its not to far from the plough for food before and drinks after.
2, Kings Arms skittle alley, which aslong as we give notice of how many are attending and we order/pay for the provision of food (Normally around £1 per person depending on what food is required) there is not normally any more charges, the only issue with this is that it couldnt be done on Thursdays as they do their own quiz night on Thursdays.
If anyone else can think of alternatives let us know.
Malcolm
