Re: GRIZZLY TRAINING RUNS ON THE QUANTOCKS

What a great morning out we all had, except Steve! Having had to park on the road leading to Lydeard Hill car park as there was 6 inches of compacted snow on the road itself, we encountered even more snow (up to a foot deep in places) during the run. Combined with the snow, slush and thick mud in places, there were various trees blocking the trails which led to a degree of mountaineering and hedge hopping! This was off-roading, big time!

Unfortunately, Steve Murphy suffered a twisted ankle, which resulted in a badly pulled ligament, after only 10 minutes of the run but Simon got him home and he is still hopeful of running the Paris Marathon in aid of the Club's chosen charity for 2009, Escape. Hope it repairs quickly, mate.

The rest of us ran (ok, walked/ran) between 14 and 16 miles in the best part of 3 hours in what were excellent running conditions, weather wise. If you got through this morning, you'll get around the Grizzly!

There will almost certainly be another Quantocks run next week, led by Simon - I'll post later on in the week.

Hey can I just say what a nice bunch of people to go running with. Thanks everyone for your patience with me! By the time I was being looped for the third or fourth time on the same hill I had to check to make sure I wasn't running/walking/plodding backwards! Remember that however many miles Mike says you're doing next week to add on an extra 2 or 5! Hope your ankle's soon on the mend Steve emoticon

Glad that you enjoyed/endured it, Lynn. It was great to have you, and so many others, there.

Yesterday showed what a great club spirit we have - looking after all of our running friends, and that's the way it should be!

The next Quantocks run will be this coming Sunday (22nd).

It will be led by Simon Lewis (I'll be taking the half marathon training group, so won't be able to make it) and will be '15 miles with an option to do a further loop of 1.5 miles', to quote Simon.

Usual arrangements - meet at Lydeard Hill at 8.20 ready for an 8.30 start.

Please post if you plan to be there.
