Re: what bike?
Bike Chain are pretty good. I went for a middle of the range Giant. Cost £750. I would only go for two front cogs cos if you are fit you shouldn't need a thrid front. Make sure you definately go for clip in pedals and shoes as this makes a massive difference. Ask them about frame size etc. Giant do women specific bikes with narrower bars etc to allow for women being different shapes to men. Hope this helps.
PS: If you are paid by Somerset Council then you can get a big discount through the cycle scheme. Some private companies have also signed up to it. I saved about 30% on the price.

Re: what bike?
Personally I would try Ralph Colemans as they are generally acknowledged as the best bike shop in Taunton, they also stock Orbea's which, being slightly biased here as I own one, I think are a pretty damn good make! Mid range one would be similar in price to the Giant quoted earlier - although you could probably get them cheaper from the Internet - Ralph Colemans does offer, and as far as I know still does, a free yearly service for the life of the bike which is a great deal!

Re: what bike?
Well I might not have with stood the crash my bike did. Quite happy with mine, Defy 2.5 from Bicycle Chain. I have a man's frame as I am quite tall. I'm glad that I went for the 3 cog for the hills. Best of luck Sally, Tri's are good fun, ignore the fact have to wait for my elbow to mend
