The 12th May 2007 will mark the centenary of Leslie Charteris' birth. In recognition of this I thought it would be nice if fans of his work had a chance to add their comments to a ‘Book of Thanks’ to celebrate his life, and to show how much pleasure his saintly chronicles, in all mediums, have given to millions of people around the world.

Re: Book of Thanks

I would like to thank Leslie Charteris for having the faith and fortitude to follow his dream and become a writer.

I have many happy childhood memories of watching the television adventures of Saints Roger Moore and Ian Ogilvy, and in later years reading and enjoying the many written adventures of Simon Templar.

Thanks to the power of the internet I have also found many new friends that share my saintly passion – for this I am most grateful.

Where do you begin to talk and thank leslie charteris?over the years he has made so many saint fans happy with the great saint stories, and we all owe him a BIG THANKS for putting pen to paper to create one of the all time favourite characters of film and tv "Simon Templar".I think we tend to forget about the writer when we read stories and watch tv series, but if you did enjoy that book or tv show, then a big thanks should go to the writer for getting you to read or watch the story unfold in the first place, thats where leslie charteris came in to his own, because you get so engrossed with his books and story lines that you think only about what you are reading or seeing and not about the writer. So at the end of the day we saint fans can only say thank you to leslie charteris for taking us on a great journey with the adventures of the saint and without him these forums and websites would not be here.

Many thanks for penning a great hero that has spanned many decades and made Roger Moore and the Volvo P1800 cult status in our lifetime.

Also a lot of brilliant actors have played " The Saint " that have made our fathers and grandfathers happy too.

I want to thank Leslie Charteris for the humour and the adventure of the Saint books, which eschewed social conventions of the time and spoke direct to the reader, in a no-nonsense and fun way. It was as if he was writing exactly what he wanted to read, and as a result the prose is as fresh and exciting now as it was then.

I got the 1928 "Meet The Tiger" from inter-library loan before I could find a copy to buy. It was strange reading a book my grandfather might have held, yet with a story more rip-roaring and characters more unconventional than any novel or film since. And I was delighted to realise how many more Saint adventures are left to enjoy (I bought them all). The modern Robin Hood is far more enjoyable than any secret agent, and a delightful relief from the stresses of life - the best of entertainment, could any 'crime' fiction writer hope for more?
