A Saint for Christmas....

Last night my girlfriend ordered me the Network Monochrome boxset for xmas, I already have the colour boxset and loved it. Bought a house this year so haven't been able to pick up the monochrome box,due to lack of cash, so my girlfriend got for for me as an xmas gift. I really can't wait to watch them. I've only seen the first season and a few episodes here and there from the monochrome era. I recently got a new HD TV and an upscaling DVD player, although this wont make much difference to an old show like this I really cant wait to sit down and work my way through all the episodes.

On an other note, I think I heard something about this here a while back and might pick it up.

Anyone here got it and can recommend it?

Hi Gavsaint

I must admit to a small pang of envy and just the hint of a smile as I remember working my way through the monochrome episodes on the Umbrella releases. I’m sure you’re going to have a great Christmas!

As for ‘The Saint – A Fan’s Guide’ I hadn’t heard of it before your post.

It does sound very similar to Network’s Saint documentaries: ‘The Saint Steps In… to Television’ and ‘The Saint Steps In…to Colour’ - both of which have been re-edited, along with additional new material, and ‘The Saint Steps In… to the 70s,’ into a single volume; although the runtime for this disc is 124 minutes, it’s only £9.99. The only catch is it has to be ordered directly from Network.

This sounds like the thing that was mooted for release earlier this year but never made it out. When I chased it at the time I was told it was cancelled.

A quick google didn't tell me much more; the Smith's web site doesn't list it and Zavvi's quote a release date of Jan. 1st. 2020 (http://www.zavvi.co.uk/dvd-10+to+12.49-DVD-Television-The-Saint-A-Fans-Guide/875365/cr33a14c.r10.1/p.jsf) which might just be nearer the truth than anyone will admit.

It was intended to be, I think, one of a series of Fan's Guides to shows including Thunderbirds and The Avengers. Certainly a company called Phoenix were known to be interviewing key Avengers personnel with this sort of thing in mind. Curiously no Saint personnel that I'm aware of have been freshly interviewed, so it might just be a rehash of some old DVD extras.

But it's certainly not the Network ones. Cos we've rehashed those and added plenty of new material. And I just got my copy so I'm happy.

And Hoppy.

The Saint Steps In… to Television did come to mind and the fact the the disk is also region free suggests that, that might be the case, as I believe The Saint Steps In… to Television was region 0?

Cdwow say they have it in stock,so maybe I should order it and cross my fingers! emoticon

Phoenix or whoever was doing the Avengers one went bust so the Avengers one was shelved.

Did the Saint fan's guide make it to publication/sale?
