Saint Synopsis

I Have just read the synopsis of the New Saint tv movie at www.saint.org and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on this? It talks of secret organisations against the criminal underworld (wasn't something like that in the last Batman Film with Christian Bale?) Patrica Holm as an intelligence expert and hidden treasures capable of igniting Holy Wars?!

What does everyone think on this?....How do you think LC would comment on this direction?

Re: Saint Synopsis

I saw the teaser artwork yesterday and felt rather upbeat about the whole thing; having had reservations about the changes being made to the regular characters.

I read the plot synopsis, and my heart sank like a stone!

Why did the producers bother buying the rights to Leslie’s stories and characters and then create a pilot that bears no resemblance to the originals.

Leslie Charteris.com and Saint.org have both been updated with the plot synopsis and teaser artwork for the new TV pilot.

Simon Templar is part of a secret organization known as 'Knights of the Templar'. He's responsible for enforcing the group's code of ethics against the criminal underground of the world. Those familiar with 'Knights' know Simon Templar by one name: The Saint. His current assignment has him in Montenegro, rescuing captive children from being sold on the black market. When the operation is finished, Templar discovers that one of the children is missing. An orphan once himself, he vows to rescue the lost boy, no matter what the cost. Waiting for him in Paris is Patricia Holm, an intelligence specialist and Templar's lover. She has information that a crooked businessman named Carger is responsible for the children's abductions; however, the Knights learn that Carger is now into much bigger things. The Saint is ordered to find Carger and steal a treasured relic that, if made public, could ignite a spectacular holy war. When he discovers Carger has also been keeping the missing orphan as his own son, Templar must decide between his own personal convictions and his duties as The Saint.

Re: Saint Synopsis

Ahhh...Teal...you may be the long arm of the law, but i think you have it spot on.

What on earth is this Secret Organisation of the Knights Templar? where did that spring from! and good old ST has become some kind of enforcer taking orders!! now we all know that just wouldnt be the case. Patrica Holm has become an Intelligence expert (shiver me timbers) and there a religious relic that has to be pinched to stop the ignition of a holy war! (has someone been watching too much Da Vinci Code?)

If this synopsis is accurate (which i would assume by the calibre of the web sites its on), how could they have got it so wrong again? It sounds like a re-hash of a million and one formuliac shows thats been done before with no relation to our literature hero other than the names (with a key marketing and logo tie in).

Now I always prefer to reserve judgment till after the event, but its just giving out all the wrong signals. It may well be an entertaining stand alone show (indeed one that i may well enjoy) But it doesnt sound like the Saint to me (In fact i'm still having sessions with my therapist trying to get over Inspector Teal being cast as an American instead of the bloodhound of Scotland yard). Has the saint become too outdated in its original format to be successful in todays world? Or am i putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5672. Anyone else have an Oar to stick in on this subject?

Re: Saint Synopsis

This synopsis is dreadful. To think we were complaining about the changes made to Teal -- all reletively minor -- compared to the turning Templar into a "yes" man to some secret (Christian???) organisation. Then when one reads of the Da Vinci Code / Indiana Jones style plot, you begin to wonder if this is a joke synopsis...

           **ANGRY RANT WARNING**
           ALERT

You what?? Is this some kind of joke?? What sort of moron(s) did the producers get to write the storyline?? The Saint taking orders from some misbegotten forgotten cult??.... I mean its not even plausible and you get so many producers and directors preaching about realism in films and getting fans to relate to the plot and characters... Its just mind boggling... how could they got it so wrong... they couldn't have written a worse synopsis/plot/storyline or whatever if they tried.. Did they even read any of the "Saint" literature" or even learn anything about Leslie Charteris?? They could've stayed truer to the genuine article by looking up the saint on wikipedia and basing their research on that, for christs sake.... The Saint working for a christian secret society.... sounds like an ironic misnomer to me... the entire thing sounds blasphemous.

Re: Saint Synopsis

Looks like the Knight Templar connection has been toned down, according to a post by Ian ****erson on another forum; the proposed script is looking a lot more Saintly…

“This project has been years in the making and the initial script was written when the film of The Da Vinci Code was on general release.

The initial scriptwriter obviously wanted to jump on the bandwagon. Fortunately over time common sense has prevailed and the script is now looking a lot more Saintly, but because the pilot film was pre-sold on the basis of the initial script we've had to keep the bare bones of the plot.”
