Monochrome Documentary

I bought the St Roger Moore’s Monochrome box set for approximately £30 from a popular supermarket online, even though I already own the Umbrella editions. I originally purchased the Umbrella editions off EBay, and there were some audio synchronization faults on a couple of episodes, which annoyed me. Fingers crossed these Network DVDs will be fine.

After viewing the accompanying documentary I feel my purchase has been worth it already. I fell about laughing when narrator, Ian Ogilvy, subtlety mocked Val Kilmer. I’ve read Roger Moore’s autobiography in which he echoes his admiration for George Sanders, yet I feel the documentary shows this to a greater extent. There were some interesting quotes from Leslie Charteris that I hadn’t heard before. It was nice to see his daughter, Patricia, interviewed too, praising Roger’s performance. Bob Baker made me chuckle when explaining the TV restrictions on the Saint’s fighting techniques; apparently Templar wasn’t allowed to perform vasectomies on criminals. Finally, Ian Ogilvy sounds like he was having a ball as narrator, but did he purposely pronounce Lew Grade’s name with sarcasm because TV mogul cancelled ROTS?

All together it’s an enjoyable introduction to The Saint TV series. Well done to Ian ****erson and colleagues. I can only hope the newly planned Saint series will be a deserving hit and we get more Saintly nostalgia in the public domain soon.

Glad you enjoyed the documentary, it was a lot of fun to make.

Although Ian O doesn't yet know this I have plans to make use of his vocal abilities in the future...

Ah, Hoppy, you are one for dropping intrguing nuggets: is this for a Saintly project or do you mean you're booking Mr Ogilvy as an after-dinner speaker?

After dinner is a time for drinks, not for speakers.
