Re: titanic's alice cleaver
Greetings,
This is an interesting thread. I know the feeling about the night of the sinking as I don't remember every passenger I saw that night. It makes me wish I could. Thanks for listening. TTYL, Laters.

Re: titanic's alice cleaver
Sorry to bring up an old thread again
Does anybody know which officer was in charge of loading boat 11? I have never bothered to look it up, but since it's the boat my son was saved in, I have recently been wanting to find out everything about it, but I can't find out who loaded and lowered it...I don't even know if there was any one officer or seaman in charge, i have not looked into it.

Hiya Bess,
I might be able to help, if I don't get beaten to it, I know I have at least one book with detailed information on the . I'll see what I can find out.

Re: titanic's alice cleaver
Hello Bess, my sweetheart I've got this so far
I will check other sources,, but from the British enquiry.
It seems that 6th officer Moody looked after, among others, the loading of boat 11 and so to did 1st officer Murdoch. The boat was lowered at 1:25 am according to the report.
I will try find out more for you my precious darling, ok? I hope this will do for now. Now I need a smilie8

Re: titanic's alice cleaver
Me again Bessie darling xxxx. I think I have got what you asked for at last. I bet there was an easy way of finding out, but I got there in the end lol. Ok, here goes.
I looked at a few sources, online and on my shelf. From the British Board of Trade inquiry I found that boat 11 had 9 crew members, 1 adult male passenger, and 60 women and children, but I could not find names for the crew on board, not straight away, anyhow. Then I came across this from Colonel Gracie's book 'Titanic' that he wrote, I understand, after carrying out his own research of those on board boat 11 he names the following crew, and gives a name for the one in charge:
Crew: Seaman: Humphreys (in charge), Brice; Stewards: Wheate, Mackay, McMicken, Thesinger, Wheelton; Firemen: name missing; Stewardess: Mrs. Robinson.
I then checked an online source for the crewman Humphreys, which also states him as being in boat 11 and in charge. Maybe that information came from Col. Gracie's book too but does not give a source refference.
I hope this is what you wanted sweetheart
Am I really your hero? XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Bye for now honey.

Re: titanic's alice cleaver
It was the first answer I wanted lol, who was in charge of loading the actual boat, not who was in charge of it once it had been lowered or whatever.
Thanks anway, I appreciate your hard work
