Here is SS Star of India, the iron-hulled windjammer, that is seen berthed near Monarch of the Seas' Royal Caribbean/Cruise Ship Terminal berth, in San Diego...

Here she is at full sail...

The reconstructed metal-hulled sailing ship is home-ported in San Diego Harbor at the San Diego Marine Maritime Museum. Launched in 1863 (10-years to be exact, before Will was born 28 Feb. 1873 emoticon), she was one of the first metal-hulled ships built.

Awww she is a beauty indeed. Yeah that was 10 yrs before Will's birth. However it was only 1 yr before his parents married and 2 yrs before his eldest sister Mary was born. HMMM great ship indeed .

Re: SS Star of India

It dawned on me last night, Wills, that I was thinking of the Empress of Ireland windjammer, you-know-who had posted under this forum...not the Star of India.

So therefore--I am glad that I opened up this brand new thread on the Star of India, in the first place. I'm sooo embarassed. emoticon

You're most welcome.

P.S. From our (Carla's & me) cabin porthole, aboard Monarch of the Seas, I could see the above ship.
