Hi all

Interesting picture of Scotcraig house. it was the original golf club of Scotland. What is interesting is that Ismay used the Gleneagles estate for his retreat. Scotcraig of course a lot earlier than that. The club was built on the grounds of the scotcraig estate, and members where ordered to wear uniforms. Not unlike today on Gleneagles there members still have to wear uniform or no golf and a £500 fine exists, Of course in scotscraig it was a penalty of two bottles of port. Scotch not the national drink as yet.

It was a beautiful house and not dissimilar to some still in existence now in Scotland and UK.

Scotcraig? It had a name? It is vaguely familiar... in the I've seen this place before kind of way. *laugh*

That phtograph toward the front door is the one that gives the vague familiarness... but I think it's because I've seen similiar style houses before. emoticon

Hi Meri

Yes it has a name as most estate houses have. The doorway is a standard door of a house of such size. In fact I can send photos of houses exactly the same from just down the road from me.

Ah. Didn't know that. And I bet that house had a central entrance hall, with a nice grand sweep stair. Or so they did in the states.

I like the door.. I really do.

Hi Meri

In reality, yes it did, the frount or original frount door would open inwords into as large entrsance hall. The stai would be dead infrount or a double stair case which swept round like a horseshoe.

The lounge was always to the left. and best room to the right. In frount past the stairs was a kitchen and usually a celler door. servants would live at the top of the house in a loft room or small room, and most houses had a large room upstairs for the owners, pluss bedroomsed It was all prety standard. But deviations did exist

Most of these houses are now run as doctors or solicitors, or hospitals in some cases very few are private owned now except on estates. of course.
