Flower of Scotland
Flower of Scotland
(Unofficial National Anthem)
Oh, Flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against them
Proud Edward's army
And sent them homewrard
Tae think again
Those days are gone now
And in the past they must remain
But we must stand up
And be the nation again
Who stood against them
Proud Edward's army
And sent them homeward
Tae think again
This was adopted a few years ago as Scotland's unofficial anthem (to take the place of the dire "God Save the Queen" which was actually written against the Scots - the third verse begins "Long may she crush the Scots"). The words in "Flower" refer to the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 when, starving and vastly outnumbered, our troops were led by Robert the Bruce to a famous victory over Edward the Second. This is the battle which briefly referred to at the end of Mel Gibson's Braveheart and was revenge for the years of torture and abuse we suffered at the hands of Edward the First (Patrick McGoohan's character) who was known as The Hammer of the Scots. There is nothing surer to stir the blood than a few verses of "Flower of Scotland" - especially when we meet England at rugby or soccer!!! You can probably tell that I am very patriotic!! I love my country. ~ (c) Anne G. McRobert

Re: Flower of Scotland
You're most welcoome, Will. I was most happy to post "Flower" here for you.
I had originally posted it over on TDTSC, but it seemed no one noticed. Which is why, since you're a true blue born and bred Scotsman...I decided to try again, by posting it here on your board. I'm glad that atleast you appreciate it.
And I thank you for adding the Scottish History forum, so we can post things relating to Scotland here, too.

Such a lovely song...have always loved it.
