E=mc squared.?

E=mc squared.?

What do we know? How do we find things out about whatever subject we are interested in?
Where does the information come from?
Over the centuries ‘knowledge’ has been passed on from those who have taken an interest in a particular subject or subjects, from parents to teachers to the particularly learned.
Thousands if not millions of ideas and thoughts and beliefs have come and gone or maybe endured. Which of them are right?
In no particular order I list some things that have been, and maybe still are, believed in over the years.
The world ended where your boundary lay, the sky is illuminated by the spirits of your ancestors, to travel over 14 miles per hour would result in suffocation, smoking is good for you, the earth is flat, nuclear power plants are safe, your team is the best, the earth is at the centre of the universe, the body is controlled by humours, not to wash is healthy, your washing powder works, kenesian fiscal policy is the only way, we will never reach the moon, the earth is only a few thousand years old.
Just a flavour, you add your own. The list is endless.
We are told what to do to make us healthy, to make us rich, to make our minds work properly. Again add your own things to another endless list.
Many of our ideas come from ‘experts’ those who label or are labelled as such. How many experts can even agree about their chosen field? Look at the lists above including your own, and see how many of those things have come from experts.
For the Titaniacs amongst us we know two things for certain, the ship sailed and sank. How many survived is conjecture. Even when the rockets were fired is conjecture.
We all have our beliefs about the Titanic disaster and many other things. All we can hope for is proof ‘beyond reasonable doubt’. Well that would be nice but how many ‘experts’ still argue about all that seems to be established.
So where is this going? All I know is that I am an expert in my own life. But even that would be argued against by ‘experts’.
You can make up your own minds. I have my own beliefs, many of which I believe have been proved ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ but of course the ‘expert’ would argue my reasoning.

So is science worth it? Why should we attempt to "know" stuff?

That's the problem, is science worth it?
We have to take so much on trust otherwise we will never get anywhere. The problems arise from being to ready to accept things, something which I know I do and am sure most of us are the same. Then when we discover that something we thought was true turns out not to be so it can cause either unhealthy sceptisism or even real damage to our world and it's inhabitants including the various forms of life.
I blame the myriad 'experts' who proclaim something as the truth when all it really amounts to is an educated guess, it maybe a very good and thorough educated guess but a guess none the less and in my opinion should always be emoticonged as such.
How many of us sit back and say 'oh yeh sure' when we hear another bit of scientific news? and why do we do that? it's because we are constantly let down by the 'experts' who don't want to admit that they don't know something for an absolute fact.
This world and all around us is not of our making so I fail to understand how many things can be emoticonged as the whole truth. We need to wake up and realize that we don't know everything and may never know everything and should be prepared to keep a more open mind.

Greetings,
Very interesting story. I mean as a college student to read this makes a point as we are taught that things aren't concrete, maybe someday I will understand what the professors are talking about. Thanks for listening. TTYL, Laters.

From,
Robert
