Searching the web Ok I've decided to start a new thread for letting of steam lol
I am relativley new to research on the web. It is something that I have have only dabbled in before.
I can't understand why it is made sooooo difficult to find anything out!!!!!!
Why for example if I type in the phrase 'historic maps' do I get hits for 'money off for stays in London hotels'?!!!
Why is it that when I do find a site that shows promise it takes me round and round in circles and not delivering anything?!!!!
Or I find a 'free' site that takes me to pages demanding shed loads of money?!!!
Why can't the words I type in ever or hardly ever seem to get matched?!!!!!
If I went into a shop for a newspaper I would not expect to be sold a bar of chocolate instead, but this is exactly the way the majority of the sites out there seem to work!!!!
I look forward to adding more gripes and reading others gripes too. So let rip or risk throwing your computer out of the window.

www.google.com is a great search engine. if you dont get enough hits for "historic maps" try to phrase it differently eg "old maps" or try removing the quotation marks.
here are a few website i found searching for "historical maps" on google. i dont know if they are any good at all but here you go
Re: Searching the web Using as many phrases as you can think of that describe what you're looking for helps a lot.
If you put something in quotes and you get an odd answer, it's because that exact phrase is somewhere on the page the search engine came up with.
As for the "free" pages - the internet is the Wild West gone digital. It will bite you - be careful. Also, make sure you have a good firewall and virus protection.
Re: Searching the web Greetings,
I really have no problem searching for what I am looking for as long it exists somewhere. I wish people would understand that a computer is like a woman, you have to stroke her properly to get her to do what you want her to do. lol. Thanks for listening. TTYL, Laters.
