Cool site, you're sharing with us, Wills!!! emoticon

Speaking of shipwrecks, did you guys hear recently, about that cruise ship that sank off the coast of Venus (is it Italy), for which there were 1,900 aboard? Thankfully, all but two were rescued.

All fingers point to the Captain, and five of his crew, are to blame for the sinking.

Actually yeah I heard about it and it was off the coast of Greece. The captain has been charged with neglence and a few other things the officers have yet to be charged . The ship carried a total of 1500 people and everyone was rescued excpet 2 people from one family. They were putting to gether a search team to go out and check for the two missing people. The ship ran onto some rock from a reef that had been well charted and mapped out and that is the reason the captain has been charged .

more on this as I learn about it myself.

Re: Here is another thread

here is part of an article I found ..will post pics as well.

On Tuesday, Merchant Marine Minister Manolis Kefaloyiannis said that "most definitely there was human error" involved in the accident, without elaborating.

He also praised the rescue effort, saying it worked "perfectly," despite some passengers complaining of an insufficient supply of life vests, little guidance from crew members and being forced into a steep climb down rope-ladders to safety.

"Our attention is now focused on the question of the environment ... and, of course, to find the missing two," Kefaloyiannis said.

A robot submarine began filming the wreck Tuesday in an attempt to locate the missing tourists and the vessel's data recorder, while workers tried to clean up fuel that seeped into the sea from the ship's tanks.

The submarine was to take footage of the position of the vessel -- which lies an estimated 230-430 feet beneath the surface on a steep incline -- and determine its stability before divers are allowed to enter the wreck.

on another topic this is somewhere in the vesinity of Brittanic's sinking. she sank in shallow waters as well.

more later.

I have been following this story, more or less at second hand, and the last I heard, the captain and officers are to be tried for negligent homicide in the deaths of the two passengers. Has anyone else heard any differently?
