Re: the un-lucky sister ship.
If You honestly want a reason to why the Britannic was un-lucky it may have been that she was the only sister entered into the war --- that was not complete.... And sank. Even after the Titanic disaster where she was improvced.

Re: the un-lucky sister ship.
Greetings,
What do you think of the theory that it could be a torpedo or it could have been one of the boilers exploded from a bomb inside the ship? I heard that theory also. Thanks for listening. TTYL, Laters.

Re: the un-lucky sister ship.
Robert Ballard and his WHOI, found Britannic...and they discovered that is was the former for which Wolfdy mentioned.
BTW, wasn't it Lightoller who may left a door open aboard the Titanic, causing her to sink still faster? It seems to me that I read that in an THS issue of The TITANIC Commutator.

Re: the un-lucky sister ship.
MA, can you TRY to interject something INTELLIGENT for once into a conversation? Whether or not a gangway door was left open or not had little to do with the sinking of Titanic. Firstly, the ship had an intermittent gash in her side which caused six compartments to be opened to the sea, so gangway door opened or not, the ship was going down.Secondly, Lightoller sent a crew down to that gangway door to open it in order to facilitate the offloading of mroe passengers into the portside . He judged this to be a safer way to get people off this ship than to send down life fully-loaded on falls which he did not know could take that weight (a fully-loaded life weighted somewhere around five-and-a-half-tons).Unfortunately, it would seem that Bo'sun Nicholls and his crew were overwhelmed by flooding before they could get back up to report the job done.
Since you know likttle or nothing about evacuation procedures on large ships, I suggest you learn a bit more before spouting off...oh, and nice one, putting this up on the anniversary of his death!

Re: the un-lucky sister ship.
Hi
Aye Lights old chap I do believe you have a good point it doesnt truely have anything to do with the gangway door.. Titanic was going to founder either way. Your actions as noble as they seemed at the time were not good ones .. However do remember that we have had damn near a century of hindsight to look over this and various other situations. All of which there are pros and cons to everything. When this is taken into concept then you have to understand that we were all put in an impossible situation and the whole idea of the night was to save as many people as possible...
Where Lightoller is concerned he did the best he could with what he had.. Titanic was listing a great deal to the starboard so I am sure at one point Lightoller thought that perhaps the water would hold off long enough to launch a few from the lower decks.. now given the situation nobody could have known..
after all in case nobody has heard yet..IT WAS AN ICEBERG THAT SANK TITANIC...AND BELIEVE ME THIS IS COMMING FROM THE OFFICER WHOM WAS IN CHARGE .. NOW..BACK TO BRITTANIC..
NOW THIS IS A TOPIC ON BRITTANIC NOT TITANIC SO LET US ALL RETURN TO THAT TOPIC. I WILL NOT CLOSE ANOTHER TOPIC ...
