Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
Sneaking off to have a life instead of writing.... well, I never! Actually, I have.
Except instead of a lovely dinner with my SO, I paid my bills and brought my register up to date (new computer, install software, download data from Jan 1 2005 to now, enter new purchases not yet showing on bank/cc sites).
I THOUGHT about writing and I THOUGHT about what I'd write, but I did not write.
In either case, I would have preferred a lovely dinner with Martha over what I did (in spite of the thrill of being able to see my desktop again).

Yes, my desk is due for a big cleanup. However when I write at the kitchen computer I can't see all the mess in my office...mwahahaha...

No writing on Monday, either. A whopper of a migraine snuck up on me and laid me low. *sigh*
I still have a dwarf with a hammer going wild in one temple.

Oh dear. What's good for dwarves? Could you offer him a gold piece to go away? Set some kind of trap with sliding and shifting walls to distract him?
Dwarves. They're a nuisance.
Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
Ouch!
I've never (touch wood) had a migraine (or a megraine as my friend calls them) but my mother was often laid low by them during her youth.
Dark and quiet, I think were the meds of choice. Something that would draw the dwarf out... the prospect of prospecting?
In the spirit of the thread, I wrote a short (bad) poem yesterday about something, and I'm still not sure what.
It's almost like not writing at all when what you write is incomprehensible even to you.

Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
And yet, there are those words, staring back at you from the page, saying "you wrote me, dammit. What do I mean?" Kind of like angry teenagers...

Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
Hi,
I'm back, sort of. I didn't write anything either, not today and not yesterday, unless you count tweaking my course lecture and a little freewrite with the students. Oh, and a grocery list. I know those migraine demons all too well, but what about the little devil who sits on your shoulder and says, "Oh, why bother. Go watch Oprah instead." Know what I mean?

Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
Wanda, Sue -- ouch.
Wanda--I know the feeling. As the writer in the family I always get tagged to write the obits whenever one is needed. Yuck. It's one writing job I hate. And I'm sorry to hear about your ex-MIL. I'm assuming that if you're writing the obit, there must have been some connection still there, so I'm sorry for your loss.
Sue--I do know what you mean. The past two winters I've spent at least a month listening to that little demon. I managed to stave him off this winter, but it took some planning beforehand. He will go away, eventually. Try doing something to give yourself the feeling of a new start--even something small can do it. Like a new haircut, a manicure or something pampering that you never treat yourself to. I've found that has worked for me in the past. Or try writing something with totally no pressure, something that's just for fun. Sometimes that helps, too.
I will try to send good karma to both of you.

Re: Arrrgh! I wrote nothing today.
SF,
Thanks. Wanda, my condolences. I'm the family obit writer, too. Can't expect too much other writing at such times.
I can come up with lots of excuses, the sick husband, too many other obligations, teaching and music swallowing up my time, but the real problem is just getting the motivation and getting down to it. I already did the haircut and perm--it looks great, and I'm wearing a new bright orange knit top that I think looks incredible on me. I'm starting flute lessons on Friday. But I just need to stop fluffing around and do the deed, write. The teacher needs to take her own advice. So I have 40 minutes before American Idol . . . Ready, set, go.
Take care. Let's report back tomorrow.
