Dreams
I had a dream last night that seemed like it would make a good basis for a story...in fact it was more than an idea, a lot of the story was unfolded in the dream. This is twice recently that this has happened to me, but never before. I wonder why?
Do you get story ideas from dreams?

Re: Dreams
Yes, I've taken story ideas from dreams. It doesn't happen as often as I'd like, but it happens. Two of them are still waiting to be turned into novels.
I'm glad it happens for you. It's always fun to see what the subconscious is coming up with.

Re: Dreams
I can only remember some of my dreams when I wake up. Some a quite vivid, others are hazy. I've had a couple of stories come my way, but not nearly enough.

Re: Dreams
Sometimes ideas come from dreams. Not frequently enough to rely on it...
Sometimes my dreams are quite rich with plot and other times they are like last night's little gem in which I was walking along through the snow, playing with dogs, watching skiers, and just having a good time. All the colors were brilliant and most of them were primary colors. Kind of like a cartoon.

Re: Dreams
I have only had a couple dreams that have led to good story ideas. One was pretty scary to be honest...but it was all like olden times and such and cool, so it's another of those filed away for future workings...hehe

Re: Dreams
In general, I never remember dream.
So it was especially odd (which happens to me from time to time) that on the night I determined I would spend the rest of the Summer working on my Mountain Man story, finally trying to reach 'The End' after more than ten years, I had a dream.... about Mountain Man!

Re: Dreams
And did it help you finish the story, McDoogle?
I just remembered that Cat's Eyes came about from a dream.

Re: Dreams
Actually, Scribe,
The problem with finishing Mountain Man wasn't writer's block or lack of a plot (I always knew where I wanted to go with this story). Two things were stopping me. 1> I had various versions of the unfinished story everywhere. Some typed pages, some handwritten pages, and some notes thrown in. 2> But mostly... I had a hard time getting past the point of killing off the main character. It was kind of a bummer.
So... for me the dream was more of a confirmation that I had made the right decision to finally try to tie up all these loose ends and finally finish the thing...
The dream really was about Mountain Man - my mountain hiker roommate from college. In the dream, he sends me out to his special vegatarian store to pick up some goodies for him. I end up in a jungle getting away from some wild creatures, before finally finding the store, which looked like a green barn in a field. Inside the store were women having a meeting. And then.... well... you don't want to know!
It didn't make the book - that's for sure!

Re: Dreams
I have a novel idea that came from a dream. I started the characters for it before I set out my goal to finish another one.
