posticon NaNoAnalysis 2007

I'm going to check in every few days during November to update my word count and talk about what's blocking or working for me.
The first year I did NaNo, I had a big idea but not much else. Last year, my second year, I had an idea and some preparation in place.
This year, I have a big idea that involves a series of stories. I'm working on some background information (mostly by reading about geology and climate and political science and the silk road).
I am planning to use NaNo to examine my writing process and find ways to improve.
Anyone else up for a bit of NaNoAnalysis?

Re: NaNoAnalysis 2007

Sounds like a good plan.

I want to start a new novel - but I'm a bit wary since I never touched that novel I wrote last year during NaNo. It's not complete, yet it looks like the start of a great new series for me ...

Except that this year's novel is not a part of it. It's supposed to be a stand-alone, non-YA one (I'm writing it for a competition, and that's part of the conditions).

So, this year I want to find a working mix of planning and improvising that'll hopefully help me to write constantly and to keep writing in December.

Ahh, the writing life is filled with struggle.
I figure as long as I'm writing, that's success. Someday, I'll finish something I start. emoticon
I plan to finish my mystery, and I don't expect a great deal from it, but I really need to keep writing. That is the biggest thing for me since I spent so long sitting around not starting because I was afraid I wouldn't finish.

I didn't write yesterday or today. But, so far I'm at about 1500 words.
I'm hoping that tomorrow will be a day I can dedicate to writing.

Good luck, Wanda! emoticon

I'm set to crack 10,000 tonight, but it's hard going. I used up what plan I had, and I'm now about to set up the challenge my MCs have to face.

Maybe I should have plotted more. Ah, well. After all, this is all about

No Plot, No Problem!

Bah Humbug!
I won't go on whining about life but I have to say that I'm stuck at 1500 words. I have not written a single thing since November 2nd (other than some absolutely riveting instructions for use and email messages and a couple of blog entries).
Tonight I'm going to see a movie with friends. It's a movie about a Tibetan Buddhist saint named Milarepa. I'm hoping that this brush with a life lived with purpose will help me re-rail.

Awww, being stuck like that would really frustrate me.

How about writing a scene that you already know well, even if it happens later on in the story? That might get you back into the flow, and you can always add the missing parts later on.

Best of luck! *cheers Wanda on*

Re: NaNoAnalysis 2007

In keeping with your suggestion, I wrote a scene, from somewhere in the story and it did help somewhat. It was like fighting my way up a molasses hill, but exercise is good for you, right?
Today, I'm catching up on some homework and a paying project. Yesterday, I spent the day evaluating user manuals for a competition. That was actually very interesting, though I don't think it contributed anything to my story <G>.
Once I've completed the updates to the manual I'm working on (the software designer actually made the updates, I just have to transfer them from the print version to the online version of the manual), I have an idea for another scene that I'm going to work on.
Thanks!!

Yay! I'm glad it worked at least a little bit.

Reading user manuals sounds quite boring - unless there was a really funny one for the competition. At least I wish they could be funny.

One of the manuals was a flash presentation that introduced a programming concept to new programmers at Microsoft. It was GREAT. Visually, it was a cross between Monty Python and a graphic novel. I thought it was perfect for the audience. Gave me some ideas for my Christmas presents.
