Is there a term...
...for a novel-length work that consists mainly of a series of short stories that share a common thread? It may or may not have one plotline that runs all the way through. I'm sure there's a term but it escapes me.

Re: Is there a term...
The terms or words that come to mind for me is "collection" "serial" "saga" "Tales of..."
You may not be able to find an exact term for the style of novel, but the title may be able to give an indication of what it is.
For example "Tales From The Crypt" started as a comic book series that had a theme, but no plot that recurred from issue to issue. The TV series was the same way, a collection of 2 to 4 shorts per episode.
I hope this helps.

Re: Is there a term...
I thought it was something like "linked" stories or a "story chain" or something like that...

Re: Is there a term...
In episodic TV fiction they use the term "story arc" for a series of stand-alone episodes which contribute to an ongoing plot line. I've never heard it applied to books, but maybe that's what you're thinking of?

No, I'm sure it had something to do with links...ah, well, obviously it's not a term in wide usage. Ha, maybe the author who used it just made it up to describe her book...
