posticon Hey Ya'll

I first checked out this board way back last summer after I got serious about this writing thing back in June. A lady screenwirter friend of mine urged me to give it a shot, but now I think she's created a monster. I live in Southern USA, Florida to be exact. I mainly write fiction, but I've been known to enjoy writing a tenderhearted short story or two that might be tinted with some of my own personal experiences or philosophy. My genre, if I have to pick one, it would be Mystery. I enjoy making people laugh, so I do incorporate quite a bit of humor in all my writing. I'm finishing up my third short story in the last two weeks....somebody stop me!! I have nineteen chapters so far of a novel in the works. I was born in North Carolina, grew up in Florida, lived in Tennessee for eight years, and now I'm living in Florida again. I'm *beep* years old. Boy am I tired.

Anyway, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to join another group after I had casually backed out of other groups that were unrelated to writers. There's just something about the diversity of the people that are here and the variety of the writing genres that seems to have drawn me back. I don't have anything published yet, but I guess submitting something could go along way to changing that. I hope I'll be accepted here, even though I am different. Okay, enough babbling, where's the vending machines? I got a hankering for a Coke and a bag of salty peanuts.

Hi Robert, and welcome.

No worries, you'll fit in well. I might actually pepper you with questions eventually, because my agent rather jokingly said I should write mystery if I wanted my books to sell. emoticon

I think I found the perfect murder weapon, but I have the hardest time ever to come up with a plot for the murder itself, not to mention motive and such niceties. And then I have to hide these things!! emoticon

Hi Firlefanz,

Thanks for the welcome. There doesn't seem to be too much happening here. Did I come at a bad time? Maybe everyone is still recuperating from the holidays.

I'm not sure you'd want to ask me questions regarding mysteries, my answers might be mysteries in themselves. emoticon emoticon

I'm really curious about your perfect weapon for a murder. Darn it, maybe I should have waited in my mystery before having it being a lead pipe, in the dining room, and committed by Professor Plum. But, I guess that's what rewrites are for. emoticon emoticon

Well, the board is a bit slow at the moment, partly because of the holiday recovery, I think, and partly because our dear Boss Lady has been absent for a bit. Rumour has it that her children are ill. Don't worry about starting a topic, though. When people come through they will answer.

I'd rather not give away that weapon idea emoticon but it involves a poisonous animal. emoticon

Seriously, I admire writers of mystery for the thorough plotting that I believe has to go into those stories. One day I might have the discipline to be able to do it, and then my hour will come. emoticon

Happy writing, Robert. emoticon

Re: Hey Ya'll

Hello Robert!
Well, how's life in Florida? The windy season is over, what other seasons do you have?
I'm up in the rainforests of Washington State.
December flew by without a pause. I was wrung dry by NaNoWriMo, then work, then family commitments.
I can't remember how to spell... I get to the point where I have to look up the spelling of very simple words... I know, then, that I'm tired.
Though, I am now perking up (in spite of a rather interesting start to my year) and am planning my writing time, so I will be around more.
Glad you checked in, I'm sure the board will warm up again. It has its ebbs and flows.
Welcome!
Wanda

Firlefanz,

I do hope Boss Sherry's young ones are on the road to recovery. If you talk to her, send my well wishes. I have tried to catch up on some of the past posts, and I've had my own thoughts about some of the subjects discussed, but I wasn't sure whether to get an old discussion going again. I do have a question and I will ask it in the appropiate area.
Awwww, come on, give me a hint about that poisonous animal. I won't tell anyone, I swear! Does it walk with it's tail curved up over it's head? Is it slimey and wiggly? Does it have tenacles and swim in the water? Does it have eight legs? Do I win a prize if I can guess it within 30 seconds? emoticon
I haven't decided if I'm a mystery writer, I'm just giving it a try with the novel and another story that I've gotten into for about seven chapters so far. I know they say if you write, then you are a writer, and I guess that's basically true. Sometimes I think that maybe I'm just a southern storyteller/humorist. Time will tell.
After reading some posts here, I realized my mystery novel starts off similar to Wanda's novel, but my dead body is discovered behind a portable office trailer at a construction site and not in a car trunk. It was after hours and no car trunks were available. emoticon

Wanda,

Thanks for the nice reply. Yes the windy season is over here. Let's see, I think it's Curb Jumping season now. That's when a sweet elderly person accidently stomps on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. Their car jumps the curb and barrels straight through the plate glass window of a beauty salon. You'd be surprised how much that happens here. Pool Diving season is another interesting time of the year, but that's not due for another few months. That's when people come home to find a strange car floating in their backyard pools. There's never a dull moment in the local news here. emoticon
I'm amazed how you, Sherry and others can hammer out a novel in just 30 days. I can't comprehend it. I could never do it.
I noticed in some of the posts here at the Water Cooler that some of you mentioned your ages, thinking you were old. Oh contrare. I just turned 54 last month, now that's old, so I don't won't to here anymore about how old you feel. I just wish I had seriously started writing 25 years ago at least. I always believed I was imaginative and creative, I just hated to write in longhand. I get writer's cramp just writing a letter to someone. Well, that small letter would end up being 10 to 13 pages. I find it hard to condense, wanting myself to be totally clear, so I'm very detailed and specific, but I guess you're finding that out.emoticon
I'm an unemployed in home caregiver for an immediate member of my family right now. (Points to 83 yr old woman sitting in her easy chair with TV remote in her hands. Yes mom, that's a cute doggie on TV. She's watching Animal Planet.) When I'm not doing the housework or running to the Walgreens and grocery stores before the sales end, I try to find time to write. Okay, enough babble for now. Sorry...I do tend to get carried away.

Robert

Don't worry about that. It's better to restart an old discussion rather than not talk at all. I'm fairly certain that most members will appreciate your ideas and thoughts.

And do go ahead and post your question.

My animal? That's mine, mine, mine! emoticon

Well, as you've seen, I have no problem talking. I have made a couple of other posts. I might post more later, but I've spent too much time here reading this morning.

Not budging huh? That's it...No soup for you!! emoticon

Hi Sherry,

Thanks for the welcome. No worries, all of us have distractions that affect our online life at times. Please forgive me if I seem to babble too much. If someone asks me a question, I tend to answer them in essay form. I promise to try to do better though. emoticon
