Greetings from PKCaptSun
Hello everyone.
I found this board through the Board of the Week competition and must say that it is wonderful. There is a lot of great content for anyone interested in writing and publishing.
My interest in writing stems all the way back to grade school. My most recent projects have been fanfics but I have a more serious writing and possibly publishing project in mind.
I have a avid interest in wildlife conservation and have been a serious photographer for several years. My interest is in merging my writing with my photography to produce books with the goal of publishing.
My home is Texas and I am married to Pastor Rick. In addition to writing and photography I also enjoy gardening, costuming, roleplay gaming and raising butterflies.
I've been active on RunBoard for nearly three months now and have my own board that focuses on wildlife and conservation.

Hi Capt. Sun!
Greetings from the land of perpetual clouds: Ohio!
Raising butterflies? How cool! I've never heard of that before! Checked your site. Your photographs are brillant! Such a variety of butterflies that we don't see in this region of the country. (Especically now! ) But we do see the migration of the Monarchs in October. Some years it's really awesome. You can sit in the backyard and watch them gentley loop around on their merry way.
Hope to hear more from you, Sun!

Re: Greetings from PKCaptSun
Thank you for the welcomes. Also thanks to McDoogle for the compliments. Photography is one of my driving passions. I feel best with a camera in my hands.
It is interesting that you mentioned Monarchs. Monarch butterflies are going to be the topic of my first attempt at a book. Their migration is amazing and I have been actively involved with a group called Journey North for the past 2 years. They track the migrations with the help of people all over the US.

Hello and welcome to the board! It has been quite quiet for a while but perhaps we're about to experience a rebirth.

Re: Greetings from PKCaptSun
I'm perfectly happy to start your rebirth. I know that I find it hard to remain interested in any message board or group when there is no activity. It feels like I'm talking to myself. I'm going to have more time on my hands once BOTY is over. I've been campaigning like crazy.

Re: Greetings from PKCaptSun
Captian of the Sun,
Photography is one of my hobbies too. But I'm not as skilled at it. I do enjoy going to the MetroParks and taking nature shots.
My problem with taking pics of insects is that Marco mode or Super Macro Mode is not an automatic setting that I can quickly dial in. Then, by the time I've gone through all the digital menus to get it set up, the creature has already flown away. I've missed some great dragonfly pics that way.
The Monarchs are special. This year I didn't observe that many Monarchs in the Fall. Most years they are everywhere if you are alert enough to notice. It is fun to watch them fly by seemingly without a care in the world - with nowhere to go. You would never imagine they were on their way to Mexico. They don't seem to be in a hurry.
Hope to hear more from you, soon!

Re: Greetings from PKCaptSun
What type of camera do you use? I have a Minolta Maxxum 7D and a Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd that I use regularly. My next desired purchase is a true macro lens for the Minolta, hopefully in the 100mm or higher range with about a f 2.8.
Monarchs were reported in lesser numbers everywhere though I think that I saw more in my area than in the previous year. Maybe it's just that I was looking harder. I raised a number of Monarchs as well and had better luck than the year before.
I love dragonflies too Kourtesan and have a forum that includes them on my board. The first of my photos have been posted there and I have many more to add.
