Decoding Rejections
I strive to make rejections as clear, simple and honest as possible. Even with some of the garbled, senseless queries I've received, I try to keep a positive vibe in the copy.
Working as acting submissions editor has really built my understanding of hidden rhetoric. You want me to have a look at something, just let me know. If I can help sort it out, I happily will.

Re: Decoding Rejections
I've only submitted twice (short stories), so I've only been rejected twice. That's one way to keep the reject pile small!
But I can say that I looked for every possible piece of positive re-enforcement that I could find. As for the critical stuff, I then wrote a new story trying to address those points.
One reject was a postcards stating it wasn't an open submission time (although the info printed in the writer mag said it was... )
It's nice to hear that you take some time to be positive. I think most hopeful writers really look for something positive to cling to.
Good Job!

I was on the other side for almost ten years. A**hole replies suck.
Like I said, glad to have a look for you.
