Star Wars trailer
Recently saw the trailer for the new Star Wars movie (Revenge of the Sith?), on TV. The one which finally explains how the 'greatest' Jedi of all time became the evil almost robotic Darth Vader.
I haven't had high expectation for this last (?) movie knowing how much is left to explain while tying up all the loose ends between chapter 2 (the last movie) and Chapter 4 (the original Star Wars of (I think) 1977). All in a little 2 hour time frame. That's usually a recipe for disaster...i.e. see "Dune", "BattleField Earth", etc.
But...I thought the trailer looked good. Interesting. Many clips of young Anakin being seduced by the Dark Side, via Lord Chancelor Valderon (? what's his name?). Looked pretty intriguing... Now I'm guardedly hopeful it will be a fine conclusion to the epic 'Star Wars' story arc. And not an anti-climatic letdown...
Also, having seen the first 5 movies now... at this point I'd have to disagree with Anakin Skywalker being the greatest Jedi knight of all time. Unless he does something to really blow me away in the new movie. What's Anakin really done up to this point? I would defintely place Yoda and Ben Obi Wan, higher up on the mantleplace. I've really been impressed the Ben Obi's storyline - that's a great Jedi knight. Who get's your vote?
PS. Star Wars rumors I've heard: From a couple sources, I've heard for years now that the original writer of Star Wars (who sold the manuscripts to Lucas) originally wrote a 9 book/Chapter/movie storyline, not 6. But Lucas, kinda combined all the remaining chapter 7 to 9 into #6 "Revenge of the Jedi". The premise of the epic is that's it's the story of the Rebel rebellion, as seen through the "eyes" of 2 droids...R2D2, and C3PO! Can anyone else confirm...or deny this?

Re: Star Wars trailer
Well, I did see the trailer and I know I'll be going to see the movie although I almost don't want to--because of course, knowing the story, it's where everything goes to s**t for Anakin and Padme. Luckily, they chose such a godawful actor to play Anakin that I'm not going to care when he crosses over to the Dark Side except insofar as it affects Padme.
But the trailer does look good!

Re: Star Wars trailer
Hold up - I'm a HUGE STAR WARS FAN!
I don't know who told you the rumour about someone selling Lucas the Star Wars story, but that's not right. Star Wars was always GEORGE LUCAS' idea, story etc. It was something he worked on for years before the actual movies were even made.
Anakin Skywalker isn't the best Jedi, he was simply supposed to be the chosen one before the Dark Side seduced him - although I suspect with his power-hungry ways and huge anger problem, it won't take much.
I love all the STAR WARS movies and the characters are some of the most amazing beings ever created on film. I can't wait to see EPISODE III, it looks outstanding. I actually got goosebumps just watching the trailer.
CAN'T WAIT!
Oh, and by the way YODA RULZ...

Re: Star Wars trailer
I was exactly the right age for the original Star Wars phenomenon to catch me. No other movies had such a huge and lasting impact on my life. So yes I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan.
But I'm not feeling very excited by the new movie. Episode I was the biggest disappointment I've seen. Episode II wasn't quite as bad - but that's only because Ep.I had lowered my expectations so far. Episode III... bleh, it might be good, it will probably be rubbish. I'll go and see it anyway. (I haven't even seen the trailer yet.)
I'm still waiting for the real Star Wars movie to come out on DVD - not this remastered revisionist rubbish they're selling now, I mean the movie I remember seeing on the big screen thirty years ago.

David, your wait is over. You're in the UK, right? So just click here!
You're right, the new ones don't really have a patch on the old ones. But I'm hoping this newest one might have some redeeming qualities. Should be interesting to look at, at the very least.

Nooo those aren't the real films. They are the "tampered with" versions

Re: Star Wars trailer
Hey everyone,
Love Star Wars. Love the old ones (episodes 4,5 & 6) - Like the new ones; Like not Love.
The special effects are better, of course, but the story and actors are just not up to the original three.
I enjoyed them anyway, though, once I got over the initial disappointment that they weren't quite as good.
Hayden Christiansen just eerily reminds me of those brooding, sulky, but handsome, young guys with a chip on their shoulder as big as their respective galaxy that so many girls fall for and think they can fix... Guess Padme can be forgiven for falling into the same pit that so many others have fallen into, but I can't help but wish she were smarter than that.
Know how it ends, so not as excited about the next one. But I'll go, it's sure to be an exciting ride if nothing else - Lucas always delivers on that score.
Anyway, going now - back to curling up under my blankie and doing some of my own sulking in my own respective galaxy. I'm sickly - throat infection that feels like I'm swallowing flaming swords with every swallow...

Re: Star Wars trailer
Even though we all know Anakin's fate in this movie, I still can't wait to watch it!
I do have to agree that although I love the first two movies, they do lack a certain magic that episode 4,5 and 6 had. Still, I think he's coming good in the end.
Oh okay, here's a question: Do you guys think that once all the movies are out on DVD, would you watch 4,5,6 and then 1,2,3?
My hubby and I have discussed this many times and I agree with him that to experience the true Star Wars phenomenon one must watch the original, timeless 4,5 and 6 first. They give the entire series substance and more worth.
What'd you guys think?

Re: Star Wars trailer
Just found the trailer on the net, and although it looks impressive, I'm not holding my breath. I loved the originals - my parents introduced me to them when I was little, and watching them is like a family institution. I loved Episode I also, but was very disappointed with Episode II - saw it at the movies and haven't watched it again since. I still cannot comprehend how Padme - and she is intelligent, Ep. 1 showed that - would fall in love with that puerile boy. I couldn't fall in love with him, and so her doing so just smacked of forcing-a-character-into-a-pre-defined-plot.
That said, I'm hoping Ep. 3 will redeem the series, and I'm happy to go see it on opening night.
