posticon What's your *favorite* creature?

New Horror question!

What's your favorite Horror creature? emoticon

Vampires?
Zombies?
Spirits/ghosts?
Werewolves?
Man-made creatures (any combination of body parts and/or machine parts)?
Dementated humans?
Swamp Things?
Invisible Men?
Headless Men?
A woman scorned? emoticon
Bigfoot (or rapid gorillas?)
Mysterious Forces (unseen but capable of controlling the weak minded)?
Sharks?
Demons?
Skeletons that rattle chains?

I'm sure there's another 27 that I've forgotten! What are they?

What are some of *your* favorites???

Interested,

McDoogle

I guess my favorite human monster would have to be Freddy Kruger. I still have a warm spot in my heart for him. He was so stylish...and what a handsome devil. emoticon

If you want to know what scares me most, this:

A perfectly friendly, polite and throughtful person who coldly plans to hunt someone down because they insulted him or her. Someone who believes himself / herself above every other human and acts on it.

The one I'd actually read a story about? Not horror, but maybe something about Mysterious Forces.

Ha! Of course Godzilla counts, David! He is the King of Lizards after all... emoticon

Some great input, guys! Which gave me a few more ideas... I actually forgot my own favorite creature... Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde! Loved the Broadway musical BTW, if you get a chance - check it out!!!

Also... walking the dog at night along the dimmly lit sideways, in not the best of neighborhoods... there's a 'sound'. It's always right behind you. Everytime you turn around - you see nothing, and hear nothing. Start walking again...there it is! So 1 vote for creepy mysterious sounds (or... Things That Go Bump in the Night! emoticon )

Any other 'creatures'?????

Keep 'em coming!!

I have a liking for zombies. emoticon

But that's in games more than books. I used to be a huge fan of horror, but I outgrew it as I got older. I'm a bit like Firle, I prefer to read about "normal" people who are really twisted in some way. That's scarier than werewolves, zombies, vampires etc because it could actually happen.

In games, zombies rule! emoticon

I think that's an official vote for 'Zombie', S!

The creature doesn't have to scare you anymore to still be your favorite 'horror' creature. I mean, by the time Abbott & Costello got done with him, Frankenstein was about as scary as Herman Munster. emoticon But 'Frankenstien' could still be a favorite critter!

In terms of what really scared me... it was that toy clown in 'Poltergiest'. I haven't slept since! OK, eventually I did... But it took awhile!!!! emoticon

McDoogle,

What is it about those toy clowns and other dolls in those movies when they start to open their eyes and move that make you think..What the #$%^#$%?. It never fails. I have this thing about clowns now too. The one in Stephen King's "It" really got to me. emoticon

Talking about movies, the only movie ever to scare me into not sleeping for three months was The Nanny starring Bette Davis.

Thing is, it had such an effect on me that I'm too scared to watch it again now (30 years later) in case ... well, in case I fear going to sleep again. I couldn't stand that.
