I'm going to risk more slings and arrows and nonbelievers to suggest:

phyllomancy -- divination using leaves or tea leaves

Trivet emoticon

A metal stand on which hot dishes are placed on the table or cooking vessels are suspended over the fire. Traditionally three-legged (hence the name).

(Except mine is four-legged and ceramic. And I don't use it for dishes, I use it for the iron. So I suppose it's not really a trivet at all emoticon )

Here's a new word to me:

afflatus -

a strong, creative impulse;
divine inspiration

Now there is a word that does not sound like it means what it means. If someone told me they had afflatus, I would sadly think of something much...ruder.

Exactly! A strong impulse but not that creative...or divine

Re: Good words

I'm always looking for new words to use. There are some pretty "creative" ones here.

Here's one:

inamorata \in-am-uh-RAH-tuh\, noun:
A woman whom one is in love with; a mistress

I've never heard it before, but it sounds like it would be good in some juicy novel.

It's actually the title of a rather interesting novel.
I like spendthrift because it doesn't sound like what it means. I keep thinking it means someone who DOESN'T throw money around, someone who is not profligate but someone who is frugal. It's the thrift part that confuses me.

Three of my favourite words:

fratchy: to be irritable.

blutterbunged: a state of confusion or disorder.

shazzy: to dance.

(Hooray for old words!!!)
