Re: What's In YOUR CD Player?
The new Hoobastank album gets the brain moving and the fingers hurtling over the keyboard! Strictly non-fiction writing for me, though. Can't do fiction and listen to lyrics.

It's interesting to see how many other people have said this. I used to assume it was just a personal quirk of mine.

Re: What's In YOUR CD Player?
When I'm working, I listen to *world music*, like today I'm working on the disinfectant compatibility document and I'm listening to Ali Farka Toure (from Mali) where as yesterday, when I needed a bit of energy, I was listening to Miriam Mekeba.
I grew up listening to Irish folk and jazz. My father has no musical taste (now, that should be had..) and my mother is the one with the music collection. Lots of Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. I know lots of east coast folk so deeply (thank you Carole Issac!!) that it is almost as if it were wordless! So, I can play that stuff when I'm working, some classical, and stuff that is either instrumental (Don Ross is a favourite for that) or in a language I don't understand (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan shows up a lot).
When I'm writing and it's not work (ultrasound, it just seems appropriate that I write with sound... I powered a manual on a multidimensional data analysis tool with a Neil Young tribute album), I like, wait for it, bag pipes. I have a favourite album by a young fella from Scotland, Chris Armstrong, who writes his own bag pipe music. I also like to listen to the Fort Henry Guard on pipes and drum.
When I'm struggling, I need silence. I need the door closed.

Re: What's In YOUR CD Player?
Lately I've been spinning all my Barenaked Ladies CD's. They're very energizing. But they're not making me write!

Err. The CD for World of Warcraft. >_>
I'm not listening to music much, lately. I still miss the plain and simple CD player program I used to have before installing XP. Now I have to mess with Winamp, and it's a pain.

Re: What's In YOUR CD Player?
Ha. I don't need the CD for World of Warcraft. All I need to do to hear that music is wander over to the room where my husband has his computer. If he's not playing it, most likely one of the kids is. It's the soundtrack of our life right now.

Re: What's In YOUR CD Player?
Oh, the CD is not for listening, it's ready for playing.
I don't actually play a lot, except for last weekend when I was living in the daze of headaches.
